Following FC Halifax Town’s 2-2 draw against Altrincham, manager Chris Millington spoke to Shaymen TV to give his thoughts on the game.

“For the neutral it was probably quite a good game,” Millington said. “It was quite end to end, some good football played, and plenty of shots and decent chances. All in all quite an enjoyable game to watch. In large parts I thought we did very well, we’re coming off the back of a run of good wins at home, and we’ve obviously got decent form at home and we play some decent stuff. I thought it was nice to see us create a number of good chances today. I’m slightly disappointed we didn’t come away with the win, but all in all, I’m relatively pleased with the performance.”

Town equalised in the second half after a period of sustained pressure with Milli Alli netting his first league goal for the club.

“I think we shaded the first half,” Millington told Shaymen TV. “There was the Altrincham goal which takes a slight deflection, it probably stunned Sam with the deflection and then it’s a really difficult part of the pitch. So it sneaks in, slightly against the run of play as I think we were shading it in the early periods. But then in the second half, we were certainly the stronger. We controlled the first half an hour within the second half and we’re slightly disappointed we didn’t come away and win it in that spell, Altrincham had their spell as well so we can’t begrudge them the point.”

Altrincham regained the lead with just six minutes of normal time remaining, however Osayamen Osawe also netted his first league goal for the club as he headed from Matt Warburton’s corner to equalise just two minutes later.

“Milli deserved his goal, but Yamen, in the short time he was on, must have had three or four involvements in chances,” Millington said. “There’s the goal he’s scored, he’s had a couple of shots, he has put a fantastic ball into the back post that actually earned the corner that he then scored from. So, we’ve carried a goal threat today and that’s something that in recent weeks, we’ve looked a little bit goal shy. We’ve maybe looked a little bit more solid at the back in previous weeks, but we’ve certainly looked goal shy. But, today was different, today we looked like we could get three or four and we’re slightly disappointed that we didn’t.”

Up next for the Shaymen is the longest away trip of the season as they make the journey down to Torquay United next Saturday.

“The point today is important,” Millington told Shaymen TV. “For me, it’s a new start, obviously it’s a new year but it’s also the start of the second half of the season. We’ve got a good home record now. Certainly, in recent games we’ve been good so we want to build on that. Also, we’ve got to start taking more points away from home. We certainly can’t be offering up performances like Yeovil where we were good, we were solid, and possibly the better team. Eastleigh as well, we could argue we were the better team but came away with a 1-0 defeat. We’ve got to be getting more points on the road and it’s vital that we go into the new year with maintaining our home form as best we can.”
