FC Halifax Town lost 1-0 away at Yeovil Town thanks to Matt Worthington’s first half penalty at Huish Park this afternoon.

Town boss Chris Millington made one change with Festus Arthur in for the suspended Jack Hunter.

The first effort of the game fell to the Shaymen, but Rob Harker was unable to make it two goals in two games as he got on the end of a cross but dragged his shot wide of the target.

Arthur fired wide of the target on 14 minutes before Yeovil had their first opportunity as Chiori Johnson found Jamie Reckord, but his effort flew over the bar.

Town had a corner on 21 minutes which was well worked to Harvey Gilmour, but his effort found the roof of the net.

The home side were awarded a penalty just before the break as defender Jamie Stott adjudged to have fouled Owen Bevan in the box and Matt Worthington fired an emphatic penalty past Sam Johnson for the only goal of the game.

Kian Spence forced Grant Smith into action after an excellent solo run, but the Glovers goalkeeper was able to acrobatically save from distance.

A Jamie Andrews freekick saw a Yeovil man go down in the box but despite loud appeals, referee Aaron Jackson waved away the home crowd’s appeals for a second spot kick before Chiori Johnson had a strike which flew over his namesake’s bar.

Harker had another chance as he capitalised on a mistake at the back, but Grant Smith was able to save to deny Town an equaliser.

The Glovers finished the game with 10 men when their goalscorer Worthington was sent off for a second bookable offence for simulation.

Gilmour went down under a challenge in the closing stages in the penalty area but no penalty was awarded for the Shaymen.

Deep into injury Town, it was agony for the Shaymen as Gilmour’s strike was saved by Smith and it ended Town’s run of four games without defeat, the result sees The Shaymen go down 1-0 at Yeovil for the second season in a row with a penalty proving to be the difference between the two sides.

The Shaymen are back in action next weekend and will entertain Chesterfield at the Shay on Saturday, 12.30pm kick-off.
