After FC Halifax Town’s 1-1 draw away at Bromley, manager Chris Millington spoke to Shaymen TV to give his thoughts on the game.
“I think a draw is a fair result,” Millington said. “The game had a certain pattern to it. In the first half, once it had settled down after 10-15 minutes, for the lion’s share of it we played some good stuff. We defended well, we were organised and when we got on the ball, we moved it. One of the more pleasing things was how well we stayed in the opposition half. For large parts of that first half, we had good balls delivered from the left, but we didn’t really do enough to get into the box and make the most of some of those penalty box entries, but it was pleasing that we were creating those chances. Half time came and we felt we were in a good position, but then the second half didn’t really go how we would’ve liked. We didn’t really get a hold of the ball often enough and well enough to maintain any pressure. Bromley, clearly went after us a bit more and were a threat down their left with some of the combinations and the way they overloaded that area. So, it was a game of two halves, I think we shaded the first and Bromley would say they shaded the second, so a 1-1 draw was probably a fair result.”
Millington however was forced to watch the game from the stands as he served his one game touchline ban following his sending off in the Oldham Athletic game.
“It’s not an experience I’m in a hurry to repeat,” Millington told Shaymen TV. “It was challenging. We did have a line of communication with the bench. Andy Cooper and Paul Oakes who managed the game for us, and did so fantastically well. But being so far removed from the process and feeling like you have an inability to influence slight tweaks in the game wasn’t a pleasant experience. I’ve got to give credit to Andy and Paul as they were fantastic in the way they got the instructions onto the lads.”
Following Michael Cheek opening the scoring, it was Jamie Cooke who bagged the equaliser for Town, netting his third goal in the last three games.
“We were disappointed to give Cheek the opportunity,” Millington said. “If you give Michael Cheek a chance like that, he’s going to take it. We could have defended it better and we will be looking at that and making sure we learn the lessons from it. But, to pull it back so quickly was great. We’ve got to give credit to Jack Senior first of all because the desire for him to get on the overlap from what is effectively left centre half was phenomenal. He bust a gut to get beyond Angelo Cappello and delivered a ball into the box that wreaked havoc. What we lacked in the first half in terms of getting bodies into the box, Jamie Cooke did exceptionally well to back that up and make sure that he finished it. He’s on a roll now with his goals so that’s fantastic.”
Up next for the Shaymen is the first home fixture of November as Boreham Wood make the journey to the Shay.
“It’s been a long time since we were at the Shay,” Millington told Shaymen TV. “We’re looking forward to getting back on that nice big pitch because we like it there. Of course, being at home in front of our own fans is something we enjoy. But it’s another tough game and they are coming thick and fast, with Solihull, Bromley and then Boreham Wood are three big fixtures for us. So, we won’t take them lightly, we’ll do an awful lot of work in terms of getting ourselves prepared for them and hopefully we’ll have one or two more bodies back in contention which would be a bonus. It would be nice to have a little selection headache in terms of having more players available. So, we’re looking forward to it, looking forward to being back at home, and looking forward to the challenge of Boreham Wood.”
