After FC Halifax Town’s 2-1 win over Oldham Athletic, manager Chris Millington spoke to Shaymen TV to give his thoughts on the game.

“It was great and exciting,” Millington said. “There was a thrill to it. It wasn’t the prettiest game in terms of the football, but it probably was the grittiest in terms of what we turned out this season. We’ve got players playing with niggles, knocks and injuries that they’ve picked up during the game and you can see they’re doing everything they can to get through the game and get a result for us. It’s one of those games where the fans can go away proud of the effort and application the team have put in.”

Town took the lead through Mani Dieseruvwe who got himself on the score sheet for the 5th game in a row in all competitions.

“He’s on top form and he’s a great lad,” Millington told Shaymen TV. “He’s a goal threat and has he’s been showing, he’ll score goals. That’s what he does, that’s what he has done everywhere he’s been. He’s playing in a team who can create and who can put chances in the box for him. We had a discussion a few weeks ago where he was getting frustrated because he was struggling to score. But, we always knew that once he got one, others would start to follow. I don’t want us to forget Rob Harker in this either. Rob’s desperate for minutes, he’s desperate to play and show the fans what he can do and he has done that tonight. You’ve give him a chance and he’s more than likely to score as he is a great finisher. We’re very fortunate to have the pair of them in our squad.”

Oldham grabbed an equaliser with less than 15 minutes remaining and continued to build pressure, however Town were the ones to find the back of the net to win it courtesy of Rob Harker.

“It got a little ragged at one point,” Millington said. “At that stage of the game Oldham were good for the goal. In fairness they earned it but the pleasing thing for us is, we talked before the game in our pre-match meeting about some of the counter attacks we’ve had; counter-attacks against Dagenham, York, and Wrexham on Tuesday and how we hadn’t finished them off, so for the lads to finish one to win the game is extremely pleasing. That will be pointed out to them on again on Monday morning to remind them of how important those counter attacks are.”

Up next for the Shaymen sees Dorking Wanderers make the journey to the Shay and Millington is hoping to build momentum following this positive result.

“Back to back wins is now the aim,” Millington told Shaymen TV. “It’s something we need to start looking at doing. We want to climb the table, we want to put ourselves in the right position in the table. To do that we need to get back to back wins. We want to make the Shay a fortress. If I have to find a disappointment from today it is that we conceded, because we want to build on the clean sheet tally that we’ve got. So we’ll be looking to do that against Dorking, we want to be harder to beat, we want to make sure we limit their chances and clearly we’ve got players in the team, not just Mani and Rob, but others who can contribute with goals as and when required. So, if we keep a clean sheet then we give ourselves a great chance of winning the game.”
