FC Halifax Town fell to a 3-1 defeat to Wrexham AFC at the Racecourse Ground.

Town came into the game seeking their third consecutive win in all competitions.

Mani Dieseruvwe’s first half penalty was cancelled out by goals from Ben Tozer, Jordan Davies, and Aaron Hayden for Wrexham.

Chris Millington named no changes to his side after the win over Dagenham and Redbridge on Saturday.

The first chance of the game fell the way of The Shaymen just before the ten-minute mark. Jamie Cooke drove forward into the box and passed to Kian Spence. He tried his luck from the edge of the box but Mark Howard, in the Wrexham net, was able to make the save.

Just two minutes later, Town were awarded a penalty after Dieseruvwe was tripped in the box. He stepped up and calmly slotted the ball to the right side of the net, and Town were one-nil up.

Wrexham went on the attack shortly after. A cross came into the box from the right, but Paul Mullin fired his shot well over bar.

In the 20th minute, Tylor Golden went into the book after receiving a yellow card.

The pressure continued to build for Town as Wrexham continued to look for an equaliser. Tozer took a long throw from the right which found Ollie Palmer. He got the shot off, but it was straight at Sam Johnson, who comfortably made the save.

Callum McFadzean almost found the leveller for Wrexham. He managed to get his head on the end of a cross, but his effort hit the post and bounced down to Debrah who cleared the danger.

Just before half time, Festus Arthur slipped in the box which allowed Mullin to have a free shot. However, Debrah pulled off a brilliant defensive block to take Mullin’s shot away from goal.

The second half started with Wrexham on the front foot. Johnson pulled off a miraculous save from close range to deny Wrexham the equaliser.

As an instant reply, Town caught Wrexham on the break. Cooke made a bursting run through the middle. However, his shot took a deflection and went out for a corner.

Wrexham made their first change in the 61st minute as Davies came on in the place of Jordan Tunnicliffe.

The equaliser was found in the 64th minute through Tozer as his long-range shot found the back of the net.

Town made their first substitution seconds later as Jack Hunter made way for Milli Alli.

Johnson made a world class save to deny Wrexham a tap in. Senior got his body in the way to head the ball out, but it fell to the feet of a Wrexham man inches from the goal line, but Johnson made a double save to keep Wrexham at bay.

A second change for Wrexham came moments later in the 77th minute, Elliott Lee was replaced by Sam Dalby.

Three minutes later, Harvey Gilmour replaced Cooke for Town.

Second half substitute, Davies gave Wrexham the lead in the 83rd minute. Town managed to clear the ball away but only as far as Davies who managed to fire a shot into the top corner.

Hayden gave Wrexham their third in the last minute of normal time. A corner swung in from the right and Hayden rose highest to score Wrexham’s third.

The fourth official indicated 4 minutes of added time, but it wasn’t enough for Town to salvage anything from the game.

Town are next in action on Saturday in front of the BT camera as The Shaymen take on Oldham at the later time of 5:20pm.
