Following FC Halifax Town’s 2-0 win over Dagenham & Redbridge, manager Chris Millington spoke to Shaymen TV to give his thoughts on the game.

“I said in my programme notes that it would be an interesting game,” Millington said. “In the first half, we should have taken the lead. We had some really good chances that came from some really good counter-attacking football and on another day we could have been a couple up by the break. But then in the second half, it is a testament to the resilience and the hard work of the lads that they have been able to grind out a 2-0 victory. The second half was a grind, but I’m pleased that we limited a very attacking Dagenham & Redbridge to very few half chances. We created several good chances ourselves and managed to put two of them away, so all in all the game was very pleasing for us.”

We were level at the break, but the Shaymen had come close on a few occasions and Millington was pleased with the opportunities Town were creating.

“We had some really good counter-attacks,” Millington told Shaymen TV. “We had some which resulted in shots on goal and some where we didn’t quite get our shot off.  So, we were disappointed to not be in the lead at half time but heartened by some of the football we had played. We know the threats of Dagenham, they’ve got some fantastic players and an established squad which has played together for a long time and they’ve worked with the manager for a significant amount of time. We know they’re a good team and the record shows they can score goals, not least the cup game last weekend. So to limit them to so few chances and come away with the clean sheet is really pleasing.”

Town took the lead on the hour mark courtesy of a Mani Dieseruvwe diving header before Jesse Debrah headed home in injury to seal the victory.

“What a goal is was from Mani,” Millington said. “Really pleased for Mani. Of course Jamie Cooke has had a hand in it and he’s had a really good game today as well, so pleased Jamie’s got something there. Then the second goal, the determination from Jesse to get his head on it. Also the bit of skill from Jack Senior to create the opportunity was fantastic. That’s what we’ve got in the team, I hope the lads see the evidence of it now, because we have got the ability within the team to create moments almost out of nothing. We might need it on Tuesday night as well, we might need some magic from someone to create an opportunity for us go ahead and try and win the game.

Next up for the Shaymen is the trip to Wrexham and Millington is hoping for a similar performance and most importantly a similar result.

“It’ll have to be more of the same,” Millington told Shaymen TV. “Wrexham will certainly put balls into our box so we’ll have to defend resolutely. We’re going to have to have a resilience that we showed in the second half today and an organisation that shows we know how to defend together as a team. We’re going to have to build on today and be even better on Tuesday. But, Wrexham’s record shows that can concede as well so we’d hope that with the players we’ve got we will make the most of the opportunities that we get. It is a big game, but that’s what we’re in it for and we’ll go there trying to get all three points.”
