FC Halifax Town made it three games unbeaten at home to Gateshead with their first win of the season at The Shay, it turned out to be a convincing 2-0 win over a 10 man Gateshead.

Town boss Chris Millington made two changes from the last game against Maidenhead United, with Jordan Keane and Matt Warburton in for Festus Arthur and Jamie Cooke. This was Matt Warburtonโ€™s first start of the season.

It was a fast paced first half, with a lot of chances coming for Halifax and some good chances for Gateshead too, a massive improvement from the last home game against Notts County.

Gateshead started quickly, winning a corner in the 4th minute. Greg Olleyโ€™s cross was easily cleared, however.

Jamie Stott was given a yellow card in the sixth minute after a late challenge, however the Gateshead free kick from Olley didnโ€™t come to anything, bouncing in the penalty area and missing everyone, for an easy catch for Sam Johnson.

The first big chance of the game was from Gatesheadโ€™s joint top scorer Paul Blackett, with a right footed shot inside the box that was easily saved by the legs of Johnson in a shot that seemed offside. Gateshead won a free kick soon after, but it was headed away by Jamie Stott.

Gateshead were on the counterattack in the 21st minute with some lovely play from Paul Blackett that was cleared away by Sam Minihan for a corner. The corner was easily cleared

Halifax were putting lots of pressure on Gateshead, soon after with Sam Minihan whipping in a nice cross in the 24th minute forcing the defence to quickly react and head the ball back to keeper Daniel Langley.

Harvey Gilmour won a free kick in the 28th minute after a strong challenge from Robbie Tinkler. About 30 yards out on the left-hand side of the box, Matt Warburton crossed in a nice ball that reached Jesse Debrah for a free header, however it was put out by Daniel Langley for a corner. The second corner was crossed in by Harvey Gilmour from the right-hand side but was easily caught by Langley.

Halifax seemed on the front foot for a lot of the first half, putting plenty of pressure on the Gateshead defence.

On the counter Gilmour crossed the ball in but missed everyone, the chance passing by for Halifax.

Halifax won a free kick on the right side of the box with Matt Warburton being brought down, the free kick didnโ€™t come from anything.

Out of nowhere Gateshead created a great chance for a wide-open Paul Blackett inside the box from a nice through ball, but luckily Sam Johnson was ready and got to the ball quickly.

Paul Blackett went down in the 40th minute, clinching his knee, surely giving the Gateshead away support a little shock after being one of their top scorers this season, however he continued on soon after.

Just before half time, Gateshead had another chance from Dan Ward, however this shot was hit high over the bar.

Right at the start of the second half, Gateshead won a free kick taken by Greg Olley on the right side of the box about 25 yards out, however it was headed wide.

Soon after Angelo Cappello was brought down by Owen Bailey in the 48th minute. Bailey was tugging on his shirt, leaving the Town fans fuming before he was given a yellow card.

In the 51st minute, Mani Dieseruvwe scored his first goal of the season with a low driven shot on the right inside the box, sending the Town fans wild. He looked ecstatic in celebration, putting Halifax 1-0 up. Once again in the 55th Dieseruvwe scored again, securing his brace with a great finish from the outside of the box into the bottom left corner.

Soon after 60 minutes in Gateshead were through on goal almost getting their first goal, but it was saved well by Sam Johnson.

In the 65th minute of the second half, Owen Gallagher saw yellow for a foul.

A minute later Halifax had their first substitution of the game with Matt Warburton being brought off for Kian Spence.

Halifax almost secured a third goal in the 67th, however it was punched out of play by Langley. Dieseruvwe couldโ€™ve potentially scored also soon after as Langley was off his line, but it was put wide.

In the 70th minute, Dieseruvwe was brought off for Jordan Slew, receiving a massive cheer from the Halifax fans after a great performance. He will likely be disappointed not to receive his hat trick.

Gateshead made a change in the 77th minute bringing Dan Ward off for Adi Yussuf. They were becoming more lively as the game went on, creating a few decent chances that ended up being shot too high however. They kept getting the ball in the box but there were too many blue shirts in the box to block the chances.

Owen Gallagher received a red card for his second yellow in the 84th minute. Soon after Angelo Capello was brought off for Rob Harker in a substitution from Halifax.

Halifax seemed happy to go for more goals, with Spence going down but having his penalty opportunity denied and Halifax creating multiple opportunities afterwards. Rob Harker had a decent shot on target easily saved by Langley.

Hasani replaced Owen Bailey just before the extra time of 4 minutes was announced. The attendance today was announced as 1625, with 87 Gateshead away fans leaving disappointed, as they have just entered the bottom four of the league.

The referee blew his whistle, drawing a huge cheer from the Halifax fans, winning at home for the first time in the season, and continuing their three-game unbeaten streak, bringing Town up to fifteenth in the league.
