Following FC Halifax Town’s 1-1 draw against Maidenhead United, manager Chris Millington spoke to Shaymen TV to give his thoughts on the game.

“It wasn’t pretty, certainly not a game for the neutrals,” Millington said. “It was quite ugly and direct. There weren’t many huge passages where either team controlled possession. But we expected it to be like that. I thought in the first half, until our mad five minutes between the 40th and 45th minute, we were quite comfortable. It was quite a steady away performance up until that point. There was a moment with a soft free kick on the line where they whip it into the box and they create a chance which gives them momentum and gives them a little bit more belief. It sapped a little bit of our confidence and then from 40 until 45, it was like Notts County and we looked like we would concede a couple. So, it was disappointing to go into half time 1-0 down because we could have controlled that last five minutes more like the previous 40.”

Town went into the break 1-0 down following Cole Kpekawa’s first goal of the season.

“Conceding late in the half is something we need to eradicate,” Millington told Shaymen TV. “It’s maintaining the momentum in those late stages in each half that is so important. There are ways to do that like keeping possession of the ball or controlling certain areas of the pitch, but at the moment we’re not doing that well enough. It’s causing us problems at the moment and did again today.”

Jordan Slew netted the equaliser as he slotted home his second goal in as many games.

“He’s been really effective,” Millington said. “His performance off the bench for us has been fantastic. In previous performances he’s come on and we’ve changed shape to a 4-3-3, but today he went up top in a 3-5-2. He’s got hold of the ball and carried it well and clearly when he gets a chance you back him to finish.”

Next up for the Shaymen is a home fixture against newly promoted side Dorking wanderers.

“A new team for us and we know they’re a threat,” Millington told Shaymen TV. “We’ve watched their games already but we’ll go more in depth this week. We’re coming off the back of two better results and we need to take those results and raise the performance levels going into Dorking. We’ve got to put in a really good performance at home and earn the points again.”
