FC Halifax Town had to come from behind to earn a point away at Maidenhead United as it finished 1-1 at York Road this afternoon.

Town boss Chris Millington made two changes to the team that won 2-0 away at Scunthorpe United on Bank Holiday Monday, he brought in defender Festus Arthur for his debut and Jamie Cooke back in for Jordan Keane and Kian Spence.

The home side went ahead in first half injury time through Cole Kpekawa but Jordan Slew equalised within a minute of being introduced as a second half substitute.

Angelo Cappello had Townโ€™s first opportunity on 6 minutes, he turned and shot towards goal, but his effort was blocked and cleared away by the Maidenhead defence.

Jamie Cooke forced a fine save from Dan Gyollai as he tipped over a shot from outside the box for a Town corner on 13 minutes before Maidenheadโ€™s first real effort came through Koby Arthur, his shot narrowly over the bar from the edge of the box.

Town captain Jack Senior laid the ball off for Mani Dieseruvwe, but his low effort went wide of the post as he continued to look for his first goal of the season.

Minihan forced a corner after his effort was deflected just over the bar, but Town were unable to capitalise from the set piece as the home side were able to head away.

With just under 10 minutes to the break, Jamie Cookeโ€™s corner found Jesse Debrah who rose highest, but his effort was the wrong side of the post.

Just a couple of minutes later, the home side should have taken the lead. A cross from the left-hand side found Remy Clerima at the back post, his effort was brilliantly saved by Sam Johnson, but the ball fell to a Maidenhead man at the edge of the box, but his effort was blocked.

However, Alan Devonshireโ€™s side did go into the half time break with a 1-0 lead. An injury time corner was swung into the back post and was met by Cole Kpekawa who tapped the ball home for the Magpies.

Millington made two changes just after the second half started with Matt Warburton making his first appearance of the season for Jamie Cooke and Jordan Slew on for Angelo Cappello.

It was Slewโ€™s first touch that equalised for the Shaymen, he picked the ball up and fired a shot past Gyollai into the bottom right-hand corner of the net.

Slew made a run into the box, and he tried to find Dieseruvwe but Maidenhead was able to clear and it was his last contribution as Rob Harker replaced Dieseruvwe with 15 minutes left at York Road.

Former Town striker Shawn McCoulsky came on a second half substitution for the home side, a corner for Maidenhead was headed only as far as McCoulsky but his shot on the half volley went over the bar,

With five minutes remaining the home side had a golden opportunity to win the game with a goalmouth scramble, the ball hit the crossbar and Johnson punched the ball out for a corner to deny the Magpies a second goal.

Second half Injury time saw the gameโ€™s only bookings of the game as Eweke and Slew were both shown yellow cards for their part in a melee which broke out after a foul.

The Shaymen will return to home soil next Saturday and will host Dorking Wanderers at the Shay, 3pm kick-off.
