A disappointing start to the season continued for FC Halifax Town, as the Shaymen fell to a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Notts County.

County had come into the game unbeaten all season, and the Magpies brought that great form into the clash on Saturday afternoon.

A fantastic, end-to-end opening first half started off with feisty challenges going in from both sides.

After just 10 minutes, County centre-back Kyle Cameron went into the referee Daniel Middletonโ€™s book, thanks to a poor follow through on midfielder Kian Spence.

Cameron was awarded a yellow, put could easily have been shown red on another day.

Luke Summerfield dictated play quiet well in the opening half hour.

Townโ€™s number 4 saw his sliced effort go wide off the mark after 20 minutes, with his free kick minutes later being blocked by the County wall.

In attack, duo Rob Harker and Mani Dieseruvwe acted as a handful for the visitorsโ€™ defence.

Harkerโ€™s running in behind opened a few half chances for the home side, with Dieseruvweโ€™s hold-up playing allowing the Blue and White army to get further into the opposition half.

After the half hour mark, Luke Williamsโ€™ side did possess a bigger threat going forward.

Millington decided to go like for like, matching up with Countyโ€™s 5-3-2, which worked wonderfully for a small period of time.

Cedwyn Scottโ€™s first involvement in the game saw his shot crucially blocked by centre-back Jesse Debrah.

Scottโ€™s effort was goal-bound, but it wasnโ€™t long until the Magpies found the back of the net.

Striker Macaulay Langstaff met Adam Chicksenโ€™s cross-shot from the edge of the 18-yard box at the far post, slotting past helpless Sam Johnson in front of the South stand.

There was a hint of handball and offside in the build-up of the opening goal.

Just seconds later, on the other side, Town fought back immediately.

Harvey Gilmourโ€™s acrobatic effort from inside the box tested Sam Slocombe in the County goal.

Gilmourโ€™s powerful shot seemed to be heading into the top of the net, but a strong hand from Slocombe led to a Town corner.

Two minutes of added time saw County capitalise on their 1-0 lead.

Jim Oโ€™Brienโ€™s cross from the right-hand side was headed home by Cedwyn Scott at the near post, leaving the Goalkeeper no chance.

The break saw a change made for the hosts.

Youngster Angelo Cappello replaced Rob Harker, and Townโ€™s number 18 sparked the Shaymen into life in the opening 10 minutes of the second half.

The former Sheffield United under 21 did beautifully to roll Richard Brindley, before his low cross saw Dieseruvweโ€™s half volleyed attempt fire wide.

But the hour mark saw the away side gain a foothold into the game, limiting Townโ€™s chances, and it was only moments later when Langstaff scored his second of the match.

A wide-open defence allowed Oโ€™Brien to get his second assist of the afternoon, leaving the goal scorer one-on-one with Goalkeeper Johnson.

Langstaff rounded Johnson, before calmy sliding the ball into the empty net.

A period of sustained pressure from County saw them come close soon after.

Wing back Aaron Nemaneโ€™s deflected cross almost looped into the back post but flew just over the bar.

On 65 minutes, new signing Osayamen Osawe came on, making his Town debut, having just signed pre-match.

Osawe replaced Summerfield, as Millington bravely attempted to turn things around, and the forward tested Slocombe, forcing the keeper into a save down to his right.

As always, Town werenโ€™t going out without a fight.

In the 83rdย minute, the ball broke to Gilmour in the 18-yard box, and another acrobatic attempt from the midfielder found its way into the back of the net.

Gilmourโ€™s left footed strike left Slocombe standing, as the ball rolled into the bottom right corner, but it was nothing more than a consolation.

County rounded off a fantastic victory on the road with a fourth goal.

Substitute Kairo Mitchell got in on the act.

The number 9 cut inside onto his right foot, before placing the ball into the back of the net.

The loss leaves Town bottom of the National League after five games.
