FC Halifax Town’s disappointing start to the season continued this afternoon with a 1-0 defeat against Wealdstone FC at Grosvenor Vale.

Town boss Chris Millington made one change from Tuesday night’s 0-0 draw with Southend United with Sam Smart in for Millenic Alli who dropped to the bench.

The home side dominated the early stages with thee corners in quick succession, the last one found Mason Barrett, but his header was harmlessly over the bar.

Wealdstone’s top goalscorer Rhys Browne worked himself a bit of space at the edge of the box, but his shot was high and wide not troubling Johnson

Town had their first opportunity on 18 minutes, Smart’s cross landed at the feet of Jordan Slew six yards from goal, but goalkeeper Sam Howes saved well as Town looked for their first goal of the season.

Nathan Ferguson found himself in space 40 yards out but chose to shoot at goal, but Johnson was able to make the save, before a freekick whipped in by Luke Summerfield looked for the head of Clarke but the Stones were able to clear.

Summerfield found Mani Dieseruvwe in the box, but good defending stopped him getting a shot in as the Wealdstone defence held firm.

Town had another effort as Summerfield’s freekick was chipped to Tom Clarke at the back post, he pulled it back for Jordan Keane, but his effort was deflected agonisingly wide for a corner.

The only goal of the game came just before the half time break with Rhys Browne’s third goal of the campaign as he latched onto a Max Kretzschmar flick and 1-1 with Sam Johnson slotted it into the net.

Browne had a lovely chance two minutes into the second half to double the home side’s lead as he was put through again, but he could only chip the ball over the bar before Jordan Keane had an effort wide of the target as Town looked for an equaliser.

Kian Spence made his first appearance of the season five minutes into the second half as he was brought on for Sam Smart, whilst Jack Hunter came on for the injured Jesse Debrah just before the hour mark.

Spence worked some space inside the box, but he couldn’t get his shot on target and went wide of Sam Howes goal.

Substitute Rob Harker got in behind the Wealdstone defence and he fired a shot towards goal however the play was brought back for an offside flag against the Town frontman.

Summerfield got a dangerous ball into the box just needed a foot from Jack Senior, he couldn’t get there, and the ball bounced out for a goal kick.

Browne found substitute Napa; his shot was well blocked by Town before Senior had an effort from the edge of the box which was easily held by Howes.

The result is the third defeat in four games and Town have not been able to find a goal in those four games.

Town will be back in action next Saturday at the Shay to take on Notts County, 3pm kick-off.
