Following FC Halifax Town’s 0-0 draw against Southend, manager Chris Millington spoke to Shaymen TV to give his thoughts on the game.

“It wasn’t too dissimilar from Saturday,” Millington said. “We’ve worked hard, certainly in the second half. I think you’ve seen more of what we’re about in the second half as opposed to the first. The first half was much more even and you could argue Southend possibly shaded it. But over the 90 minutes we certainly deserved a draw and plenty would say we deserved more than that.”

Town conceded a penalty in the 15th minute after Nathan Ralph was adjudged to have been brought down unfairly, however, thanks to a great save from Sam Johnson, the scores remained level.

“He’s very experienced and good at penalties,” Millington told Shaymen TV. “If he reads the taker and guesses right then you’d always back Sam to make the save. Tonight he’s made a fantastic save. It was really something we built from. I felt we began to get stronger in the game once that had happened. Unfortunately we couldn’t reward Sam’s efforts with a win. But a clean sheet is equally as important at this stage.”

After three games this season, Town are the only team in the league that have failed to score a goal, but the gaffer is confident the goals will come.

“It’s not really a concern,” Millington said. “The biggest concern in these situations is when you’re not creating chances. We’ve won plenty of games with fewer chances over recent years. With the number of new players we’ve got and the number of new players in the starting 11, the cohesive nature of play is really pleasing. The control in the performance both in and out of possession is pleasing. We know the quality of the players we’ve got and the quality of the people so we know that will convert into goals soon enough. A clean sheet gives us a foundation to start to win more games.”

Town make the journey to Wealdstone for our second away game of the season and Millington is hoping to get his first three points on the board.

“They’re doing very well so far,” Millington told Shaymen TV. “They’re a good side who recruited really well this year. Again, it will be another tough test, but one that we’re up for. Off the back of two good performances in the last two games, certainly tonight can be considered a solid defensive performance, we go there confident and looking to take all three points with another performance that deserves it.”
