Following FC Halifax Town’s 1-0 defeat against Torquay United, manager Chris Millington spoke to Shaymen TV to give his thoughts on the game.

“It was a great performance,” Millington said. “It’s hard to take and all the staff and the lads are devastated. It’s not the right result, but we spoke before the game, and as a group we asked them for a performance that was worthy of winning the game and that’s what they have given us. So as hard as the result is to take, we’ve got to take the positives from the performance.”

In a much improved performance, Town dominated from the start but despite creating plenty of chances, just couldn’t find the back of the net.

“As a manager I can be picky over certain aspects of the performance,” Millington told Shaymen TV. “I can start to unpick some aspects that have meant we haven’t won the game, but clearly, anyone who was here saw the effort, application, style of play, the endeavour, and the chances we have created means we should have won the game. It’s just one of those days where we don’t get what we have worked so hard to achieve.”

As the game neared it’s conclusion, Shaymen fans believed a penalty should have been awarded and Millington felt there could have been a red card as well.

“I thought it was a clear penalty,” Millington said. “Arguably, it could have been a red card as well. There were a number of things that didn’t go our way, but I’m not about making excuses and I don’t want to put the blame on anyone else. We need to take responsibility, we didn’t take the chances we created and we conceded one of theirs. Ultimately, we can only blame ourselves, but, I’ve got to say again that the lads have been phenomenal today. If we perform like that more often than not then we’ll win more often than not.”

Looking ahead and Town host our second home game of the season on Tuesday as Southend United make the journey to the Shay.

“It’ll be a very tough game on Tuesday,” Millington told Shaymen TV. “They’re a good team who have picked up a positive result against a difficult opponent today. We know what we experienced when we went down there at the end of last season, it was a really challenging game so we know it’ll be more of the same. We’ll review and reflect on the performances from today, we’ll make sure the lads are all in tip-top form after playing in such challenging conditions and we’ll work ever so hard to deliver what we did today in terms of the performance.”
