A good workout for FC Halifax Town with players getting plenty of game time against Farsley Celtic at the Citadel with the game despite finishing 2-1 to the home side.

Both sides scored from the penalty spot in the first half with Matt Warburton for the Shaymen and then Frank Mulhern equalised nine minutes later, but the home side found a winner with 9 minutes remaining, a long ball wasnโ€™t dealt with and the Farsley Celtic man was able to fire past Johnson to make it 2-1.

Town started the game brightly,ย  a move down the right-hand side saw Matt Warburton find Mani Dieseruvwe and then out for the trialist and his low cross out was cut out for the first corner of the game.

Farsley responded with their own effort from distance which was watched by Johnson and saved comfortably down to his left.

Good chances were being created by the Shaymen; Jordan Slew pulled the ball back to Jamie Cooke, but his first-time effort was over the bar. Two minutes later, Slew cut inside from the left-hand side, his shot had plenty of venom and was tipped over the bar by the home keeper

Town were awarded a penalty on 29 minutes, Mani Dieseruvwe turned in the box and he was brought down and the referee pointed to the spot. Matt Warburton sent the goalkeeper the wrong way and fired the ball into the bottom left-hand corner for 1-0.

Farsley looked to find a quick equaliser from a freekick, Mulhern curled his long-range effort over the wall, and it was saved by Sam Johnson

Warburton had the chance to double the lead; Maniโ€™s effort was blocked, and Warburtonโ€™s effort was narrowly wide of the post from the edge of the area but within a minute the home side equalised with their own penalty. It was good work by Jacob Gratton getting the wrong side of Luke Summerfield, his ball across goal looked for Jimmy Spencer and he went down under a challenge. Frank Mulhern was able to fire past Sam Johnson for the equaliser.

Sam Johnson denied a second goal on 40 minutes, a corner into the box was headed goalwards by Adam Clayton but Johnson was able to parry it out for another corner before a chipped effort from Jimmy Spencer was over Johnson but narrowly over the bar

The home trialist keeper made another good save as he tipped an effort from Warburton over the bar for a Town corner.

With the scores level at the break, Town came out brightly again at the start of the second half, great play by Tylor Golden won the ball, beat a man to get into the box and his effort was blocked by the goalkeeper

Chances were being created by both sides, a freekick into the box was headed goalwards by Spencer and Johnson collected at the second opportunity with a Farsley player lurking for a loose ball

Farsley had a good opportunity, the ball was worked to George Hornshaw and his effort was tipped over the bar by Johnson for a corner.

Town looked to make another set piece work, a corner from Warburton into the far post found Jordan Keane who headed over the bar from within the 6-yard box.

Trialist found Warburton 8 yards out but his effort on the turn was blocked for a corner, whilst Slewโ€™s powerful shot from the left hand side is parried by the goalkeeper and Town couldnโ€™t capitalise on the rebound, before a long ball for Cooke into the box, touch and turn and shot was tipped over the bar again by the keeper.

The home side won the game in the final minutes with Mwiya Malumo with his cool finish.

Town are back in action on Tuesday with a behind closed doors game at Fleetwood Town.
