Following FC Halifax Town’s 2-0 win over Wealdstone, manager Pete Wild spoke to Shaymen TV to give his thoughts on the game.

“I’m dead pleased,” Wild said. “I thought we got back to being us today. We tactically got it right in terms of letting them have the first pass and then looking to squeeze after that. The boys were tactically spot on and I’m just delighted they have gone out, got the win and I’m really pleased with the performance. I’ve said some honest things this week and things I felt needed saying. It’s to cajole them along, I’ve made it clear to the lads it’s not us and them, we’re all in this together. I’ve highlighted things that needed to be better and I think you’ve seen that today.”

Billy Waters netted both goals having come off the bench. The second took his tally to 20 in all competitions this season.

“People will be wondering why I’ve left him out,” Wild told Shaymen TV. “I felt he looked tired at King’s Lynn last week, and with a full week with England where they got the run-around on Wednesday night. I just thought it was time to give him a break. The lad does so much work for our team that at some point we needed to give him a break. He was fuming when he left my office yesterday, but the last thing I said to him was look at the positives. He came on at a stage of the game where it is stretched, so instead of creating opportunities for other people it was a different mind-set for him.”

Town defended well to keep another clean sheet which makes it 16 in the Vanarama National League this season.

“You normally always need your keeper at some point,” Wild said. “Luckily today he didn’t have loads to do. The back lads have taken a little bit of criticism over the last seven days, but they deserve credit today as they defended on the front foot. Like the start of the season, they are on the front foot and they are attacking the ball better. That makes it 16 for the season and that’s what good teams do well.”

Three points makes a perfect start to a busy week with home fixtures against Solihull Moors and Woking still to come.

“What a night and what game Tuesday will be,” Wild told Shaymen TV. “Solihull are a top footballing side like us. It’ll be some game Tuesday night. It’ll be tactical, it took one chance for them to win it down there. They had one chance to hit us on the break, they took it and won 1-0. So it’s going to be some game on Tuesday and I can’t wait.”
