FC Halifax Town’s Youth Team progressed to the final of National League Academy Cup, defeating South Shields, 6-7 on penalties.

The semi-final, at the 1st Cloud Arena finished as a 0-0 stalemate after full time.Β  Following a misplaced first penalty, the young Shaymen converted the following seven penalties and two Lewis Haley saves secured the victory.

To reach the final Town defeated, Darlington, Chester and Chesterfield and progress to face Eastleigh who defeated Woking 3-2.

In 2018 the young Shaymen reached the final of the National League Alliance Cup losing to Chester and reached the semi-final of the Academy Cup in 2020, the game wasn’t played due to the Covid pandemic.

Youth Team Lead Coach, Gavin Atherton said: β€œthis is a great achievement for the club, staff and players.Β  We are a young group with a number of first year players, the team has developed well over the duration of the season.Β  They work hard in training and have shown a great mentality to overcome obstacles this season, this has been great for me to see.Β  However we must want more; we have a number of remaining league games and we want to remain focused and carry this momentum into the National final.”
