Matt Warburton was FC Halifax Town’s match-winner in the Shaymen’s 2-1 home win against Dover Athletic.

The visitors took the lead in the first half before Billy Waters found an equaliser before the half time whistle. Then in the second half, Warburton came off the bench to dispatch a goal to give Halifax all three points against the team bottom of the Vanarama National League.

Warburton started his interview by reviewing the game, “Fair play to Dover, they made us work hard for the win,” he said. “They sat back and made it hard for us, but getting into this part of the season, the three points is what matters. I will admit that it wasn’t pretty out there today.”

He added on his winning goal that came in front of an empty North Stand, “I’m not bothered if I score in front of a few thousand people or one person,” Warburton stated. “All that matters is the ball going into the back of the net. Dover made the decision to put us in front of the South Stand in the first half. That was tactical because they didn’t want the South Stand sucking us in, in the second half – which our fans have done this season.”

Matt has been a substitute recently for the Shaymen, but spoke about whether a goal could earn him a starting spot, “That is totally up to the Gaffer (Pete Wild),” he answered.

Before adding, “I was ruled out for the Notts County game due to an injury, and the boys did really well to go 70 minutes with ten men. Then the side got wins against Barnet and Weymouth. I just need to stay patient, although, I am not really good at that trait if I’m being honest. The lads who have started, have earned their shirts, and the only thing I can do is give it my all when I am on the pitch.”
