Following FC Halifax Town’s 2-1 win over Dover Athletic, manager Pete Wild spoke to Shaymen TV to give his thoughts on the game.
“It was a tough game,” Wild said. “You have got to give credit to Dover, they gave us a right game. I’ve been saying it all week that today’s game is not a formality and it wasn’t going to be. Dover gave a great account of themselves. It was a sloppy goal to give away. I don’t think our aggressive press has been there in recent games was there today. I think that has caused most of our problems. We didn’t aggressively press, but as the game went on, our patterns start to come out and the way we score goals was starting to come out. It was two Halifax-like goals that have won the game for us.”
Billy Waters netted Town’s equaliser with just five minutes left of the first half after Alfie Pavey put the visitors ahead.
“It’s a real Halifax goal,” Wild told Shaymen TV. “It’s come off the right side and I felt there was some really good play down the right hand side for us today. It was a great turn and finish by Billy and that is what he does best for us.”
Matt Warburton scored what proved to be the winner with just over 20 minutes left on the clock.
“I’m trying to be fair to the lads,” Wild said. “I’ve got to try and keep 25 lads happy, which isn’t easy. So if people do well and we win games I’ve got try and be fair. Matt and Jack Senior were both frustrated to miss out, it’s their first time being out of the side, but we know what Warby has got. We know he has a goal in him and he’s popped up with a goal today to win us the game.”
Town’s next fixture comes against Bromley on Tuesday, Wild is hoping for another positive result to keep us within reach of top spot.
“They’ve had a good win in the cup today,” Wild told Shaymen TV. “You know what’s coming on Tuesday night. They’ll be organised and strong on set pieces. Michael Cheek has always got a goal in him. We will really have to be ready for what will be a tough test on Tuesday night.”
