Following FC Halifax Town’s 1-0 win over Barnet, manager Pete Wild spoke to Shaymen TV to give his thoughts on the game.

“It wasn’t one for the neutrals,” Wild said. “They came with a game plan to try and frustrate us which they did for long periods. Certainly a scrappy game, I don’t think the official will need a new pea in his whistle for next week. It was just one of those games that you have to get over the line. I’ve told the players now that they will have to expect more of this, especially from the lower teams in this league. They’ll come to try and frustrate just as these lot did today.”

With plenty of fouls being given both ways, the game never really got going as both teams struggled to find a rhythm.

“It was clear plan that they came with,” Wild told Shaymen TV. “They instigated their plan really well. In fairness we did the same for large parts of the game on Tuesday against Notts County. I’m certainly not criticising it, but it is frustrating.”

Niall Maher netted the crucial goal four minutes before half time as the Shaymen capitalised on a set-piece.

“It’s the second phase of a set-piece,” Wild said. “We haven’t been scoring enough off of set-pieces this season. So we set ourselves a few challenges and one of those was to score from more set-pieces. It doesn’t really matter how you win games and today’s has come from a set-piece which is great.”

Up next for Town is the long trip to the South coast to play Weymouth and Wild is hoping for another three points.

“They’ve improved under the new manager,” Wild revealed. “I’ve watched them in recent weeks and they have a different way of playing under their new manager. They will certainly give us a real good going over down their, so we will have to be up for the challenge.”
