Dagenham & Redbridge: I Got My Mojo Back

FC Halifax Town striker Billy Waters regained his goal scoring touch after finding the back of the net twice in the Shaymen’s 3-1 win at Dagenham & Redbridge.

Town went 1-0 ahead when Matt Warburton scored from distance. The lead was later doubled when Waters converted a tap-in past Elliot Justham. Dagenham pulled a goal back before Billy got his second of the match in the 90th minute.

Waters shared his feelings after his double contribution, “I am absolutely delighted with today,” he said to Shaymen TV. “I know as well as anyone that I’ve not scored for a few games now. I think in other games I was just overthinking it. Obviously, I want to do my bit for the team but ultimately I want to get goals, so I just needed something to fall for me – which it did in the first half.”

He added, “I then got my mojo back, and that’s evident by my second goal when I didn’t overthink it and just hit it in. We needed the second goal today as it killed off the game.”

Waters mentioned the psychological mind games that can play when in a goal drought, so he then expressed his thoughts on the moments he saw his goals go in, “I just felt relief, to be honest,” Billy said.

He added, “I’ve probably not been getting that many chances recently, but in the Eastleigh game, I should’ve scored. So, after that I was disappointed with myself, and I was thinking when am I going to get my next one? It sometimes is just about luck falling to you. Hopefully the goals will continue to come.”

However, goals aren’t everything for Billy, as he has shown he is capable of being an athletic and tactical player to benefit the team. A way of playing that he aced against Dagenham, “I’ve been pleased with my performances in recent weeks,” he admitted to Shaymen TV. “The goals just haven’t been there for me, but other than that I don’t mind playing out wide and doing my bit for the team. In the game today, we had a game plan with Jamie Allen pinning his centre half, Aaron Martin being a nuisance, and so was Gerry McDonagh when he came on. We knew that Dagenham would come at us, and that then leaves space for us to go at them.”
