FC Halifax Town claim the win away at Alfreton Town on penalties after it finished 1-1 after 90 minutes.

A goal from Kian Spence was cancelled out by Conor Branson in the first half, in a tie that saw very few chances from either side. Jack Senior netted the winning penalty in a shoot out that saw 12 penalties taken but five converted.

An early corner for Alfreton following Yusifu Ceesayโ€™s deflected cross was taken by Dayle Southwell. It found Adam Lund at the back post but his free header was blocked by Jamie Allen who quickly countered, but it came to nothing.

Following a Town corner, Alfreton were able to counter through Ceesay. The winger found Matt Rhead on the edge of the box but Sam Johnson was out quickly to make the save. Baily Hobson picked up the loose ball 25 yards from goal but his effort was cleared off the line by Tom Bradbury.

Again Alfreton were on the attack as Dayle Southwell found some space on the right wing. The former Shayman whipped in a great cross and Rheadโ€™s effort from the edge of the box was only narrowly over the bar.

Town made the breakthrough on the 22nd minute as Kian Spence tapped it home from the penalty spot. Luke Summerfield found Billy Watersโ€™ run into the box, the forward unleashed a shot on goal forcing George Willis into a great save, but he couldnโ€™t stop Spenceโ€™s effort who made no mistake to make it 1-0.

It took just over five minutes for the hosts to get their equaliser. A set-piece found Rhead at the box post, the strikerโ€™s header fell towards goal and an Alfreton player latched onto it but had their shot blocked. The ball ricochet around the six-yard box before it fell to Conor Branson who fired past Johnson to make it 1-1.

Neither side were able to create any clear-cut chances for the final 25 minutes off the start and the second half started in a similar vein with very little between the two sides.

Just past the hour mark and Alfreton really should have been 2-1 up. A great flick on from Rhead found Ceesay on the right wing. A great cut back landed at the feat of Hobson and his shot was just inches wide of the near post.

Three minutes into the six of added time, Alfreton won a free kick in a deep position. The ball went short to Milan Butterfield who cut inside to shoot but it went harmlessly wide of the near post.

With time running out, Alfreton continued to attack. Hobson found himself with space in the box to shoot, but Woods got a deflection on to take the pace off of it and make it an easy save for Johnson.

Neither side were able to deal the final blow so the tie was settled on penalties with Rhead netting first. Woods smacked his penalty against the bar. Branson coolly slotted past Johnson before Warburton fired home. Former Shayman Southwell stepped up third for Alfreton and saw his penalty saved well by Johnson. Niall Maher had the opportunity to make it 2-2 by Willis saved well to his right. Butterfield also had his penalty saved as Johnson got down to his right to make the save. Jordan Slew with an assured penalty to make it 2-2. Johnson then denied Hobson to put Town with a chance of progressing. Billy Waters couldnโ€™t capitalise on the chance as Willis made another good save. Dwayne Wiley with the first penalty in sudden death but he fired it narrowly over the bar. Jack Senior stepped up to give Town the win and he sent the keeper the wrong way to wrap up the tie.

Town progress to the fifth round of the FA Trophy but our next fixture comes away at Maidenhead United as we return to league action.
