FC Halifax Town took a point from the ‘Battle of the Top Two’ as 2nd placed Town travelled to league leaders Chesterfield. After the 1-1 draw, Harvey Gilmour spoke to Shaymen TV.
The Shaymen took the lead early in the first half through a Matty Warburton strike, and Town held on until the latter part of the game. Chesterfield drew level with minutes to go of normal time when former Aston Villa player Jack Clarke scrambled an effort past Sam Johnson.
The midfielder, Harvey Gilmour, played the full 90 minutes and gave his verdict on the match; “We looked sharp,” he said. “They came out of the traps but not that quick, and then in the second half we let them come into it and it’s probably a fair result in the end.”
During the game, Town got in behind Chesterfield’s backline on a number of occasions and therefore the question beckoned, did Gilmour find the hosts to be open at the back? “Oh, definitely, we knew what they were up to,” he answered. “We set-up for counter-attacks and especially in the second half. I think second half we tried going for another to win it or in the end, settle for a point.”
The Vanarama National League tweeted about the game and called it ‘The big game’, and it was the top two teams in non-League facing each other. Therefore, Gilmour gave an assessment on how big that is for where the club is at the moment; “I think from the start of the season, we have just kept on going and going,” he explained. “You can see how good we have become, and for Halifax to be joint-top at Christmas, that’s a big achievement. If we keep going the way we are going then we will be up there come to the end of the season.”
Looking away from the game with Chesterfield, this is Harvey’s first season with the club, and he gave an overview of how he is finding it; “I am loving it,” he said with a beaming smile. “Last season at Stockport, I didn’t play a lot of games and that’s what I came here to do. So, credit to Milly (Chris Millington) and the Gaffer (Pete Wild) for giving me those opportunities.”
Gilmour added by speaking about his relationship with experienced pro and fellow teammate Martin Woods; “It’s storytime every morning,” he stated before again smiling. “He is an absolutely fantastic gentleman, and to share a car journey with him every day is brilliant – we have a barrel of laughs.”
