FC Halifax Town exited the Emirates FA Cup yesterday afternoon after a 2-0 defeat at Kidderminster Harriers.
Following the game, Halifax manager Pete Wild spoke to Shaymen TV, and began by giving his initial thoughts; “This was frustrating,” he said. “It wasn’t tactical or technical that won Kidderminster the game, but more of them wanted it more than us. As a manager, and for the players, when I come out and say they wanted it more than us – that’s ridiculous.”
Wild added; “They started well, and scored two avoidable goals – I think their second was offside, but that’s irrelevant now. The second half was a non-entity, but we had the ball and didn’t have a shot on goal, so we can’t be disappointed if we don’t threaten their goalkeeper.”
The Shaymen went 2-0 down inside 20 minutes, and the Gaffer gave his take on what his subsequent game plan was; “Our game plan remained the same,” he stated. “We just had to get the ball and dominate possession, then do what we do, but we were going long too early. The ball kept coming back out to us, and that’s why I made the change at half time, bringing a left-sided centre-back next to a right-sided one so they would step-in. This allows us to get more people higher up the pitch, but for all the possession and good play in the second half, we didn’t test their keeper, and the opening 20 minutes lost us the game.”
Wild later went on to give a review of the Emirates FA Cup campaign, which has seen the Shaymen beat Pontefract Collieries in a replay. Then defeat Maidenhead United 7-4 in a thriller at the Shay for Round One. The run then came to an end with the loss to Kidderminster.
“I’d sum it up as disappointing because we wanted to come here and do well but we haven’t done that. We didn’t come here and give a true account of ourselves, and that’s disappointing,” said the Gaffer.
The interview ended with a positive look, as statistically, the Shaymen are seven unbeaten in their last ten; “The season is going well for us,” Pete explained. It is what it is, and we’ve got to keep going because there’s a lot of footy to be played. Let’s go back to our league form on Saturday.”
