FC Halifax Town moved up to 3rd in the table with a 3-2 away victory over Torquay United at Plainmoor this afternoon.

Pete Wild named an unchanged starting XI that were defeated in midweek at home to Wrexham.

The home side started brightly and had the first opportunity of the game. Ben Wynter’s shot from range was turned round the post by Sam Johnson.

Matty Warburton fired a shot at goal which was parried by Shaun MacDonald into the path of former Gulls striker Billy Waters, but his effort was put out for a corner to the Shaymen.

MacDonald saved from Slew and the home defence was able to clear before Warburton could tuck home the rebound.

Town had a great opportunity to go ahead on 25 minutes, but Waters’ shot went just over the Torquay bar.

However, the Shaymen weren’t to be denied and on the half hour mark it was a moment of skill from Jordan Slew with a shot from 22 yards for his first away goal for the Club

Within a minute of the second half starting Slew doubled his away goal tally for the season with a second of his afternoon blasting the ball into the top corner past MacDonald for 2-0.

Kieran Green’s effort was saved by MacDonald four minutes later and former Torquay frontman Billy Waters popped up to score for his 13th goal of the season from a tight angle.

Slew had an effort on the hour mark for his hattrick, but it was blocked by the home defence.

Warburton looked to make it 4-0 but the ball went over the bar as Town were looking threatening every time going forward.

However Torquay pulled two goals back in injury time to make it a nervy last couple of minutes, substitute Klaidi Lolos got what looked to be a consolation goal on 90 minutes with a low effort past Sam Johnson and then Armani Little got a second goal for the Gulls just a minute later as Sam Johnson spilled his effort and gave the home side hope with 5 minutes of injury time to be played.

The home crowd really got behind their side pushing for what looked like an unlikely equaliser for most of the second half, but Town held firm in injury time and it’s now back to back away victories.

Town will next be in action in the Emirates FA Cup 2nd Round action next weekend as we travel to Kidderminster Harriers on Sunday 5th December, 4pm kick-off.
