Following FC Halifax Town’s 7-4 victory over Maidenhead United, Manager Pete Wild spoke to Shaymen TV to give his thoughts on the game.

“From the sublime to the ridiculous,” Wild said. “Some of the goals we scored today were some of the best goals we’ve scored all season. What pleases me is that our work on the training ground for how we’re going to beat Maidenhead has really come off. That was exactly how we worked on the training ground to beat them. But our defending today, gee-whiz. For a team that has kept eight out of ten clean sheets, you wouldn’t have thought that from us today.”

Town looked dominant during the opening period and were well worth the lead when Tyrell Warren stepped up to net the opening goal of the game.

“It’s good to score off of a set-piece again,” Wild told Shaymen TV. “That is really pleasing as we work so hard on set pieces. So, I’m really happy to score early which got us off to a good start. But then we let one in. It seems to happen when we play Maidenhead, there always seems to be a lot of goals. We just switched off for the throw and we don’t defend the cross well enough and that’s what you get.”

Elliot Newby netted Town’s seventh goal of the game just a few days after it was announced his loan had been extended until the end of the year.

“Again, it was really good play,” Wild said. “We did really well to get in behind and pull the ball back. Those are the goals we work on in training. Seven goals that have come off the training ground which is great to see. Newby is a top player who really suits how we play. He is a really good player, and he really fits in with the group. Now that we have had time to build a squad and a way of playing, we now know who to go and recruit.”

Town now have no fixture for two weeks with the next fixture coming with the away trip down to Dover Athletic on the 20th of November.

“Happy days,” Wild told Shaymen TV. “The lads have been brilliant, and I think they deserve some down time. I think they deserve to have a break now. They’ve had a great start to the season, but it is now about rest, getting their minds fresh again and being ready to go for Dover.”
