FC Halifax Town defeated Dagenham 1-0 at the Shay yesterday evening, and midfielder Matt Warburton spoke to Shaymen TV after he assisted the winning goalΒ

The Shaymen took the lead on the 12th minute when Warburton delivered a text book corner into the box which Kieran Green headed past Elliot Justham in the Dag & Red net. β€œI’m delighted to have got the assist,” Warburton said on his involvement. β€œBut I am more delighted to get the goal rather than the personal accolade. It’s nice to have an assist next to your name, but it is more important tonight that we got the three points.”

Matt added on the game itself; β€œIt was a tough out there today, up there with the toughest we’ve had because Dagenham are a very, very good side who move the ball around well. You saw how hard we worked tonight, so I’m delighted with the three points.”

There haven’t been many games this season where Town have won via a set-piece goal, but Warburton spoke on how much the art is perfected in training. β€œI practice shooting, yeah! But corners we will do every now and then,” he admitted. β€œI don’t look to pick anyone out, but more put it into a decent area and when you have lads like Kieran Green who are willing to break their neck to get in there – then you have every chance of scoring.”

Coming into the match, the Shaymen sat in fourth whilst Dagenham were one place and one point below. The table shape-up hasn’t begun yet, however, Warburton gave his take on how beating the Daggers boosts momentum – taking into consideration the storyline from the table before the match.

β€œIt’s great momentum, and we have managed to take three points against every team that has come here apart from Maidenhead,” Warburton answered. β€œWe’ve made this place quite the fortress, and it’s one of the Gaffer’s messages from the season so far that no one comes here and gets an easy ride. You can see that with how much the fans are growing in numbers and noise each week – they’re pushing us over the line. To be honest I don’t look at the league table too much; myself and Billy Waters looked tonight, but you don’t look at it too much, you just see who you’re playing next and where they are in the league. It’s all about just playing what is in front of you.”

Matt ended his piece to Shaymen TV by giving an overview of how he has felt since joining the club. β€œI love it,” he said with a beaming smile. β€œI loved it from day one, and it’s probably the first time in a couple of years that I have enjoyed my football. Coming here with the belief that the Gaffer and Chris Millington have put in me to play every week has boosted me as a person. I’m delighted to be out there and give my all every week, but I want to touch on the relationship with the fans, you saw it out there tonight there’s a momentum going around the place – we’re going about things quietly, but the town is backing us – and that will grow through the season. On a personal note, I am absolutely loving it here.”
