FC Halifax Town were defeated for the first time since the 4th of September with a 1-0 away loss at Solihull Moors courtesy of Callum Maycock’s second half strike.

Town boss Pete Wild had made two changes to the starting eleven with Tom Bradbury and Jack Vale coming in.

An early opportunity saw Kieran Green find Jack Senior down the left-hand side and his strike from a tight angle was into the side netting.

The home side hit back a minute later with good play in midfield from Alex Gudger finding Jordan Cranston but his shot from distance was always going away from the far post.

A foul on Tyrell Warren by Joe Sbarra with a shirt pull. Warburton on the right, his short freekick for Vale but good defending by Solihull stopped the ball going into a dangerous area.

Senior found Matty Warburton, his first-time effort was deflected over the bar for the first corner of the game. Warburton’s ball in was to the far post, headed back across goal from Green and was cleared to Kian Spence but his effort was narrowly wide of the target.

Another cross from Jack Senior looked for Warren at the far post but Cranston headed out for a corner. Town took it short and looked to find the right ball into the box, Vale’s cross was only just missed by Tom Bradbury at the far post and out for a goal kick

On the half hour mark, Solihull worked well to Dallas and found himself in space 25 minutes from goal, but his effort was always rising and out of the ground.

As half time loomed, Waters came short and found Vale down the right. His cross was deflected out for a corner. Warburton’s ball was flicked on by Maher, Warren went down at the far post but out for a throw at the other side of the pitch.

Into the second half Senior and Allen combined to find Warburton, the latter getting into the box and his squared ball was blocked by Howe, however Town were behind as Solihull punished Town by going up the other end on the counterattack and Andrew Dallas ball into the box was slotted home by the unmarked Callum Maycock for the first goal of the game.

Town had the chance to get back on terms straight away, a freekick into the box was headed goalwards by Green but Solihull were able to clear.

Another cross into the box came out to Senior, his effort was blocked by Williams as Town looked for an equaliser.

Just after the hour mark, Vale did well down the right-hand side to win a corner for his side off Tyrone Wiliams. Warburton’s ball into the box looked for Bradbury but he was unable to get a touch and went out harmlessly out for a throw.

Spence was then fouled 30 yards from goal, Warburton’s effort was bent around the wall but straight into Ryan Boot’s hands.

Allen was the first man to into Adam Herczeg’s book for a shirt pull after losing the ball in his own half. Cranston’s freekick was headed into the air by Bradbury and the shot on the turn by Joe Sbarra was held by Johnson.

Spence tried his luck from distance, but his effort was deflected over the bar for a Town corner, Warburton’s ball towards Green was cleared back to Warburton, a touch and he tried his luck, but his curling effort was always over the bar.

As Town prepared to make two changes, Town had a freekick on the far side. Warburton’s ball into the box was tipped out for a corner by Boot. The short corner to Spence, his effort deflected to Warburton into the box, but his effort was to the near post and was saved again by Boot.

Wild made two subs with Jordan Slew replacing Jamie Allen and Elliot Newby came on for Jack Vale.

Good play with Senior and Newby, saw Senior into the box he went down under a challenge, the referee shook his head and waved away his appeals for a penalty.

Town were putting the pressure on with Newby’s cross headed over the bar for a corner. Warburton’s ball this time was punched away by Boot.

Newby down the right his pullback was blocked by Sbarra for a corner, it was taken short but Newby’s ball to the far post was too heavy and out for a goal kick.

The fourth official signalled four minutes of injury time, Warren’s cross into the box was met by Green but his header was straight at Boot.

Martin Woods was close to finding the equaliser as his volley was palmed away by Boot and it was the final effort of the game as Town’s efforts proved to be in vain and will go again on Tuesday night with the visit of Dagenham & Redbridge at the Shay, 7.45pm kick-off.
