Following FC Halifax Town’s 2-0 win over Weymouth, manager Pete Wild spoke to Shaymen TV to give his thoughts on the game.
“It took us a little bit of time to get going,” Wild said. “At first it was a little bit flat and quiet but as soon as we got the goal we got into our rhythm a bit more. We created some good chances. It wasn’t a complete performance, but it was a controlled performance. After the week we have had here, I will settle for that.”
Town looked to dominate the ball from the start which prevented Weymouth from creating too many clear-cut chances.
“They started well,” Wild told Shaymen TV. “They dropped us quite low early on which frustrated me as I wanted to be the team that imposed ourselves on them. But to win the game is great, and the subs that came on influenced the game really pleased me.”
Jordan Slew netted the opening goal to get his second in as many games, before Kian Spence netted his first professional goal to give the Shaymen a two-goal lead.
“They’re the areas we try to infiltrate,” Wild said. “Those are the sort of passes and crosses we work on in training every week. So, for that to come off is dead pleasing for me as a manager. Slew is probably in his best goal scoring form for a while, so he has got to pleased with his return and we are delighted with how he is playing at the moment. We’re dead pleased for Kian as well, another young player that has come in and taken his chance. A young player that we are trying to produce at the football club. He’s got one there and made the last ten minutes a little bit easier.”
The Shaymen now face Ilkley Town in the West Riding County Cup before travelling to Pontefract Collieries in the FA Cup, two games that Wild is desperate to win.
“For Ilkley we will be playing players that need a game,” Wild told Shaymen TV. “I really want to win on Tuesday night, so it is important that we do that. It is also important that the lads that haven’t been getting their chance get their minutes up. With the FA Cup on Saturday, let me make it clear that we are not taking it lightly. We will be playing our strongest team available. We will be doing things right all week. We are not going to be going into the game undercooked thinking we have cracked it. We are going to pay them the respect they deserve, and we will go there and play as hard as we can.”
