Barnet: It Has Not Gone Our Way

Following FC Halifax Town’s 0-0 draw against Barnet, manager Pete Wild spoke to Shaymen TV to give his thoughts on the game.

“We’ve controlled large parts of the game,” Wild said. “A team like ourselves who like to pass the ball around find it tough at times in conditions like these. It’s easier for a team that doesn’t play a lot of football on the ground to play in these conditions. But we’ve moved the ball well and created some good chances to score but unlike in previous games where everything has gone in, unfortunately it hasn’t today. Their keeper deserves a lot of credit and they defended resolutely. It just hasn’t gone our way today. If we had come in and felt we had been run all over, or we hadn’t created enough chances then we would be disappointed. We created loads of chances, controlled the football, we just haven’t scored and some days that is just how it is. It is another point on the road so that’s four out of six this last week on the road, so we have to be happy with that.”

Town created plenty of chances throughout the 90 minutes but just couldn’t find the back of the net with both Jordan Slew and Billy Waters going close on a number of occasions.

“You have days like that,” Wild told Shaymen TV. “But what is really pleasing is that along with that possession, we haven’t looked stretched at the back. They only really had one chance of note early in the first half when Sam made a save with his feet. Other than that, we never really looked troubled.”

Town were joined by new loan signing Elliot Newby who came on in the second half to make his debut.

“He brought some real quality to the game,” Wild said. “His deliveries into the box were great and some of his drives and runs were really impressive. Unfortunately, some of passes just haven’t quite got there. But he hasn’t played a lot of football at Stockport. We’ve brought him in to add some quality and we saw some of that today.”

The Shaymen host Notts County on Tuesday with Town hoping for more of the same defensively.

“There result today is irrelevant,” Wild told Shaymen TV. “They’ll be hoping to put right what they have done wrong today. So their result today is irrelevant. We’ve got to concentrate on what we’re good at that is certainly what we’re going to do over the next few days.”
