FC Halifax Town made it back-to-back victories after defeating Aldershot Town 1-0 at the EBB Stadium this afternoon.

โ€‹The first half was played at a high tempo but didn’t produce many opportunities. Aldershot had the first effort of the match when Tom Bradbury gave away a free-kick on the edge of the box; Shots’ midfielder Toby Edser took the set-piece by hitting a low and hard shot which Sam Johnson captured well.

Halifax’s first chance of the game resulted in a goal on the 26th minute; Town attacked down the left-hand side with Jack Senior who played the ball inside to Matty Warburton. Warburton then fed a ball through the box which Billy Waters latched onto and calmly slotted past Mitch Walker in the Aldershot goal.

Waters’ 7th goal of the season proved to be the difference between the two teams, but there were a plethora of chances to follow – with Edser having the most notable first-half opportunity when he fired a volley over the bar from the edge of the box.

The second half was dominated by Aldershot who pushed long and hard for an equaliser. Shots’ top goal scorer Corie Andrews diverted a header into the palms of Johnson before Giles Phillips rose the highest from a corner and headed just wide of the goal.

Then in the final 10 minutes, it looked like Aldershot had found their equaliser when Edser received the ball 25 yards out and hit a powerful strike that was destined for the top corner of Johnson’s goal. But, the 6’7 goalkeeper dived with his arms fully stretched and tipped the shot over the bar.

After a period of dominance from Aldershot, Pete Wild introduced Jamie Allen to the game, who used his pace to get in behind the Shots’ defence and draw in fouls. Which he did on the 90th-minute mark when Lewis Kinsella caught Allen whilst he burst past the defence. Town therefore had a free-kick five yards from the box and to the right of the goal; second-half sub Martin Woods took the set-piece and hit an in-swinger onto the side netting.

Woods’ effort turned out to be the final chance of the game, as a first-half goal from Waters was enough to see the Shaymen out, in a match which they dominated for 45 minutes, before Aldershot took a grip of proceedings in the second half. Halifax will take the three points back to West Yorkshire, and prepare for next Saturday’s away trip to Barnet.
