Following FC Halifax Town’s 1-0 defeat away at Yeovil Town, manager Pete Wild spoke to Shaymen TV to give his thoughts on the game.

“I’m highly frustrated still,” Wild said. “Having watched the goal back 25 times I still can’t decide why a penalty has been given. Yet again we come unstuck and we couldn’t create enough clear cut chances to get an equaliser.”

Both sides struggled to create from open play in the first half with Yeovil having the greater chances, all coming from set-pieces.

“We knew it would be like that,” Wild told Shaymen TV. “We knew they were good from set-pieces and that is one of the reasons we went back to a 3-4-3. It gave us more height and aerial threat in the team to stop their threat. But, we paid them too much respect which is why we changed our formation to go back to a 4-3-3. It allowed us to control the game better and I thought we were by far the better team in the second half as a result.”

By making the change of formation early in the second half, Town looked more likely to score and started to dominate the game more.

“This time of the season is all about feeling out different formations,” Wild said. “3-4-3 worked at Woking last week and we thought it would work here and that’s football, that’s life. But what we did was be proactive, we tried to change it, we tried to make things better, and we tried to get back on the front foot. We did that in the second half and it looked like more of us in the second half.”

Town host Southend next Saturday with Wild and the rest of the squad hopeful of getting back to winning ways.

“There were loads of positives for us to take,” Wild told Shaymen TV. “We learnt a lot about the players, the team, the structure, and our formations. So we learnt a lot which will stand us in good stead for what’s to come. We’ve got a tough set of fixtures in the next few weeks which gives us really good chance to imprint ourselves on the league.”
