FC Halifax Town record their first win of the season after defeating Woking FC 3-2 at the Kingfield Stadium.ย

Woking began the game on the front foot as former Town attacker Tahvon Campbell had a blistering start on the left wing. Inside four minutes, Campbell swung a dangerous cross into the box which Niall Maher headed out for a corner. The corner was taken by Jordan Maguire-Drew who picked out Rohan Ince inside the six-yard box, he headed past Sam Johnson, but Jack Senior got onto the goal line to clear the ball.

Campbell impressed further in the game when he drifted into the box before having a right-footed shot off the inside of his boot which narrowly went wide of Johnsonโ€™s goal. The Cardinalโ€™s early pressure was added to by a Joe McNerney header that Johnson tipped over the bar, and then a loose ball which ended up with Kyran Lofthouse โ€“ he blasted an effort wide from range.

The first goal of the game commenced on the 24th minute mark, and it was against the run of play as centre back Jesse Debrah overlapped wing-back Jay Benn before receiving the ball 25-yards-out. He then cut in onto his left foot and fired a rocket into the bottom corner of Craig Rossโ€™ goal. Debrahโ€™s opening goal marked a positive debut.

Debrah continued to make the headlines, as after 37 minutes the young defender was penalised for giving away a penalty. Solomon Nwabuokei broke inside the box before Debrah nudged the Woking man down to the ground. Maguire-Drew took the penalty and converted it past Johnson.

After Wokingโ€™s equaliser, the game was level for just four minutes as the third goal of the match went to Halifax. After a good move forward, Matt Warburton had the ball inside the box, and fired a shot which took a deflection that turned the ball goalward. Town midfielder Martin Woods then proceeded to smash an effort past Ross once the ball changed direction.

The Shaymen began the second half the same way they ended the first, as it took only 50 seconds for Town to score a third goal. Luke Summerfield had the ball on the right-hand side and switched the play to Billy Waters who was situated on the edge of the box. The striker then set himself a yard into the penalty area and drilled a low shot into the bottom corner of Rossโ€™ goal.

Halifax had full control of the match and should have got a fourth goal minutes after the third when a corner from Woods found Maher who headed an effort onto the bar. The ball then fell nicely for Tom Bradbury whose shot yards from goal was saved by Ross; a loose ball from the save then ended with Warburton curling an effort wide.

A lively and energetic game was later dominated by Woking as they searched for a goal back, and after numerous corners and half chances, that goal came courtesy of George Oakley. The Woking attacker picked up the ball on the left-hand side level with the box and cut in onto his right before curling an effort past Johnson on the 67th minute.

The Shaymen stayed strong and saw the game out to take all three points back to West Yorkshire. Halifax are next back in action on this coming Monday when they host Altrincham FC at the Shay Stadium.
