Following FC Halifax Town’s narrow 2-1 defeat against Maidenhead, Manager Pete Wild spoke to Shaymen TV to give his thoughts on the game.

“It was decided in both boxes,” Wild said. “We have created some really good play and we’ve got a really good identity in how we want to play this year. But we haven’t been ruthless enough in their box. They have had four or five good chances and Sam has pulled us out two or three times, but then there is nothing we can do about the goals. We do have to be better in both boxes. I would call that a clear work in progress today.”

Billy Waters netted the opening goal after some great build up play saw Jay Benn play a perfect ball across the box for the forward to smash home.

“We do have some great build-up play,” Wild told Shaymen TV. “But we have been talking about this during preseason, that we have to be more ruthless once we have finished the build-up play. We need to be finishing these chances off. We have created chance after chance today and not taken them which is highly frustrating for me.”

A defensive error allowed Maidenhead to get the final goal of the game to take all three points home with them.

“We are going to play that way,” Wild said. “People will be saying he needs to sling it there. We don’t train all week to sling it, so we were never going to sling it. It was a mistake. They do happen in football, but we just need to move on and improve. Obviously, it would have been great to win, but the season is over 44 games not just 1.”

Town travel to Woking next Saturday for the second game of the season, and a chance to continue improving.

“We’re looking forward to putting right,” Wild told Shaymen TV. “We will go there and give a good account of ourselves as we always try to do. We’ll work on things we have seen today, and we will see where that takes us.”
