Following FC Halifax Town’s narrow 2-1 defeat against Chesterfield, Manager Pete Wild spoke to Shaymen TV to give his thoughts on the game.

“We threw everything at them,” Wild said. “We were by far the better side and we had them penned in their own half for large parts of the game. We just could not find that winning goal. But when you are on top what you do not need is for a ridiculous decision to go against you. Unfortunately, that is what you get with officiating at this level. That then takes the stuffing out of you when we were on top in the game.”

Darren Stephenson netted Town’s equaliser, and his first goal for the Club, with a great striker that perfectly found the bottom corner.

“He started a bit nervy but that settled him down,” Wild told Shaymen TV. “I was really pleased for him that he was able to get his goal, I was really pleased for all the lads today. They have given the Club everything this season. All the fans should have optimism for where this Club is going. Two years ago, there was very little progression within the Club.  Now, we are fighting at the top end of the table and having a chance to get into the playoffs right until the final day of the season.”

The Shay opened its doors to the fans for the first time in over 14 months. Wild was delighted with the support today and is looking forward to getting them in regularly next season.

“I really enjoyed it,” Wild said. “I thought they were great today, absolutely fantastic. They pushed us and drove us on all the way through the game today. It was great to see, and I know the lads really enjoyed it. If we can more of the same next season, then we can have more unity with the fans and the team driving towards the same goal.”

As the season comes to a conclusion, Wild is looking forward to having a couple of days off before the hard work begins again.

“I’ll spend some time with the family and get away from football for a bit,” Wild told Shaymen TV. “This season has been a hard slog and one that has taken it out of me ! I have got nothing left to give right now, the players and the staff do not have anything left to give. So let us get away from football for a bit and then we will sit down with the players and have a chat about what is next.”
