The Shaymen recorded a 1-0 victory over Woking yesterday evening โ€“ midfielder Martin Woods spoke to Shaymen TV after the match.

The Scotsman put in another great shift to help Town clinch the victory and began the interview by giving his thoughts on the game; โ€œIt was a difficult outing today with the treacherous conditions, but the boys dug in and I felt the goal was going to come after we had a few chances. Overall, I believe we got what we deserved tonight; I know it wasnโ€™t brilliant, but we deserved it.โ€

Both sides were goalless at the break and there werenโ€™t many clear-cut chances in the first forty-five, so Woods expanded on what was said at half time in the dressing room; โ€œWe just said letโ€™s keep going because we will get a few more chances. But the thing is, it was baltic conditions out there and because that caused puddles on the pitch, it was hard to pass the ball as it just got stopped from moving, so we spoke about having to minimise the risks of passing the ball backwards to Sam Johnson or anything that would cause us harm. We had to minimise the risks but also get onto the front foot and take chances.โ€

Martin then added on the second half winning goal; โ€œJake Hyde did what he does best by sticking the ball in the net, and it was a great passage of play with Luke Summerfieldโ€™s ball. I also thought after the goal we could have got a couple more, but we are pleased to get three points and now letโ€™s kick on.โ€

As Woodsy mentioned, the conditions made it a tough game to play in and the pitch took its fair share of a beating by the rain; Martin summed it all up by saying, โ€œIt was a very strange one! The weather this afternoon was lovely with the sun, but this is typical Yorkshire weather โ€“ I have it the same up in Scotland; you never know whatโ€™s coming. Even before the game today I was thinking shall I pack my under armour? Well, I am certainly glad I did!

โ€œThe game was a difficult one, but we got to grips with it; I know there was a little slip in the first half where there was a pass back to Sam and it got stuck in the ground and their man took it around Sam, but we just had to minimise that and play with the conditions.โ€

Lastly, Woods went over the upcoming schedule from now till Saturdayโ€™s game with Stockport County; โ€œWe will be back in on Thursday and weโ€™re at a stage where the boys are fit so we will look at more team play and see what Stockport are about โ€“ of course, we have the video analysis which we will start watching. Thereโ€™s no rest, we are just looking straight ahead to Saturday against a good side.โ€
