FC Halifax Town got back to winning ways with a Jake Hyde goal to hold off the visitors in a hard fought 1-0 victory at a very soggy Shay.

The game got off to a cagey start as the weather conditions took its toll from the outset.

A late challenge from Woking’s Jack Cook caused the first opportunity of the game after a really late challenge on Jake Hyde. Cook was the first player into the book for the challenge making it his tenth booking of the season with the free kick coming to nothing.

Woking had the ball in the back of the net however after Sam Dalby scored a rebound from a fabulous Sam Johnson save. A great cross came in from the free kick and Ben Gerrings header made the Shayman pull off an impressive save.

Town dominated possession shortly after with good link up play from Spence, Chadwick and Hyde. Well linked play set the number nine up for a big chance but he scuffed it wide.

Hyde had another big chance shortly after with quick thinking from the Hull loanee who played a short corner to Woods whose quick thinking found Hyde at the back post. The defender got a nick on the cross for the home side to win another corner. It was Bradbury’s turn to have a chance from the corner but he headed it wide.

Woking did have a chance after some resolute defending created a mix up at the back by Neill Byrne. He got the ball stuck under his feet and the back pass was too short to Johnson who scurried to stop it. Dalby took it round the big number one but Bradbury and Clarke were there to clear away the danger.

As the rain continued to pour down the Shaymen went in at the break 0-0.

The game got off to a slow and lackluster start once again with the away side having their chance of the game. Fancy footwork from Zac Robinson deceived the Shaymen defence however he couldn’t get the ball on target.

Billy Chadwick once again showed his qualities to launch a counter attack with great footwork but he was brought down by Lofthouse who was the second player in the book for Woking.

After a quiet spell in play the former Woking and now current top scorer for the Shaymen Jake Hyde found the back of the net after a voluptuous ball over the top by Summerfield. His through ball landed straight at the feet of the number nine who poked the ball home to put Halifax one nil up.

Chances came thick and fast shortly after with Green setting up Hyde for another chance which found the back of the net but the flag was up for offside to deny the striker his second goal of the game.

It was a nervy end to the game for the Shaymen as Woking threw everything at them but Halifax stayed strong for them to keep their first clean sheet since Altrincham. A massive three points to make it twenty eight out of a possible thirty nine points. The Shaymen remain 5th after tonight’s victory.

The Shaymen return for their third home game on the bounce against Stockport on Saturday at 3pm.
