The ever-present Sam Johnson gained another clean sheet yesterday afternoon against Solihull Moors, and spoke to Shaymen TV after the match.

Johnson started the interview with his thoughts on the game; “Truthfully, it was a bad game. We’ve played a lot better this season and lost so it makes up for those lost victories. We will take nicking a 1-0 and getting into the play-offs – they’re the types of games you need to win to do that.”

Sam added on getting his clean sheet, “I am delighted, not having many this season but a few games back I started a little target for myself – to help the side climb up the table. The defence today was great, of course there was Byrneys (Neill Byrne) goal line clearance and we’re all pleased.”

In the last game Johnson made his 200th league appearance – after joining the club initially in the 2015/16 season, on-loan from Port Vale. The goalkeeper then went on-loan to Gateshead before returning back on-loan to the Shay in 2016/17, and then signed permanently for the club in time for the 2017/18 season.

Looking back at his time at the club so far, Sam spoke on if he could have ever imagined him reaching this landmark at the club; “When you sign on loan it isn’t something you ever first think you will do, but I’ve really enjoyed playing for the club. Very proud to get to this achievement and I have my eyes on even more matches now.”
