Following FC Halifax Town’s 1-0 win over Solihull Moors, manager Pete Wild spoke to Shaymen TV to give his thoughts on the game.

“It wasn’t a classic,” Wild said. “We’ve put so much effort and so much quality into the last few weeks that it was inevitable that we were going to get a game like that. We had to ride our luck a lot of the time. They have come and pressed us as hard as they can. We now have a lot of tired legs from how hard we have worked. We were delighted to get over the line and we have won ugly today. We showed character above and beyond. I’m really pleased. We certainly weren’t brilliant, far from it, but we were resilient. Everything that was thrown into our box, we headed it, tackled it, and cleared one off the line.”

Town survived a nervy first half which saw the visitors hit the woodwork twice courtesy of shots from Mitch Hancox and Jamie Ward.

“We were expecting a reaction,” Wild told Shaymen TV. “Whenever a team gets a new manager or suffers a big defeat, you’re always going to get a reaction out of them. We saw that today from them and I thought they worked really hard for their new manager today. But thankfully, we just found a way to win. We’ve won by a penalty, got a clean sheet, rode our luck, and we’re pleased with the result.”

Martin Woods put the Shaymen 1-0 up in the 48th minute from the penalty spot. Jeff King was brought down in the corner of the box before the midfielder stepped up to convert the penalty.

“It was definitely a penalty,” Wild said. “It was a really good finish from Martin and then you have to ride the storm which we did. They maybe had half a shout for a penalty with the one from Niall but apart from that, I don’t think anything warranted a penalty for them.”

Halifax host Aldershot this Tuesday and will be hoping to make it four straight wins and six unbeaten.

“It’s another really big tough game,” Wild told Shaymen TV. “They’re another really physical side that will come here and we’ll have to rest-up properly. We need to make sure we’re ready for Tuesday night as it is another big game. We want to pick up more results at home, so it is important we back up this result on Tuesday.”
