FC Halifax Town recorded their first ever win at Hayes Lane yesterday as goals from Luke Summerfield and Jamie Allen helped the Shaymen to a 2-1 win away at Bromley.
The game had originally been scheduled to be played at the Shay, however the two Clubs agreed on Thursday to switch the game due to the weather and pitch conditions in West Yorkshire to ensure a game went ahead this weekend.
Town boss Pete Wild told Shaymen TV, “It was touch and go on Tuesday night when we faced Southport, the weather didn’t relent on Wednesday. It snowed on Thursday which meant Oz couldn’t get onto the pitch so Bromley offered to switch it which meant we could get the game on”.
The Shaymen went behind from Michael Cheek’s penalty before Luke Summerfield equalised and Wild had no issues with either penalties been awarded.
“It was a penalty; Michael Cheek has gone down under the challenge from Kieran Green who was the wrong side. He felt the nudge and went down.”
In relation to Town’s spot kick, “Tahvon was excellent for us against Bromley and we had told him about their goalkeeper spilling the ball and he has been rewarded for his determination to get there to get the penalty.”
“I think we fully deserved the result yesterday, I thought we looked tough to play against, I thought we looked strong, with and without the ball, and we were a constant threat throughout the football match.”
“I keep saying it, but it shows progress. I look at how we did here last year, and we lost there 5-0, now we’ve just won 2-1, so it’s an improvement.”
Town did not have Martin Woods or Lewis Mansell in the squad for the game.
“Martin not been feeling well for the last couple of games, he doesn’t seem to have any air in his lungs,” said Wild.
“He had COVID-19 back in November and he’s had two tests recently that were negative. But he might be suffering from what they call long Covid.
“We just took him out for a week, try and get some air back in his lungs and go again. Whilst Lewis felt ill on Thursday night, so he rang in sick, he was throwing up all night.”
Town travel to Wrexham on Tuesday night in the Vanarama National League, 7pm kick-off.
