FC Halifax Town drew 1-1 away at King’s Lynn on Saturday to make it 7 points from the last 12 on offer in the Vanarama National League.
Town boss Pete Wild told Shaymen TV, “I thought we started really well, and we should have gone 1-0 up early on. We were not at our best though, we dominated the ball, but we were not good enough with it. They tried to make it difficult for us, they tried to stop us playing but we have managed to get a point”.
The home side went ahead in the first half thanks to a goal from debutant Alex Kiwomya on 38 minutes.
Wild said, “We deserved what we got at half time and we were frustrated by that. In the second half, we increased the tempo, we were quicker with the ball and rightfully, we got back into the game. In the last 15 minutes, the game could have gone either way and I thought it would finish 2-1 but I did not know who to.
He continued, “We had more purpose in the second half, Lewis Mansell has been able to get the goal from a couple of yards out. We have brought him in for a month and I’m really pleased he held the ball up well during the game and got his goal.”
Town were boosted with the arrivals of Lewis Mansell and Jean Leroy-Belehouan during the week and both started the game to make their debut against the Linnets.
“We wanted to add a couple of players including in defence with Neill Byrne suspended and Nathan Clarke out. Jean has come in and done well for 65 minutes, I only took him off to change the formation to 4-3-3. We didn’t train on Friday due to snow; Lewis hadn’t trained with us; Jean has only had a couple of sessions with us which wasn’t ideal, but they were able to show what they can do for us”.
Conditions in Norfolk were not great for watching due to fog, but Pete Wild was pleased the match officials ensured the game started and finished.
“I complimented the officials for keeping the game on, they deserve credit for doing so with the weather. It was bad at the start and bad at the end, but it didn’t affect the outcome of the game and with the number of games called off for other reasons, it was good to get this one done.”
Town are back in action on Tuesday night with Hartlepool United coming to the Shay.
He concluded, “It’s a point on the road, we need to back it up with a win on Tuesday night at home to Hartlepool United. We want to be in the top 7 position, we are in there and we need to keep going.”
