The Shaymen took a break from training to spread some seasonal cheer to residents of Happy Days at one of the most challenging times of year for the homeless.

A special delivery of hampers from the players, packed with food, snacks and treats, was made to the charity’s accommodation just in time for New Year’s Eve.

David Bosomworth of FCHT said: “The players are very aware of the challenges facing people in our community who are homeless and they wanted to help at New Year, when things can be particularly tough.

“Happy Days is our chosen charity for this season and we were keen to do something practical on top of the fundraising that’s happening throughout the year.

“Happy Days is doing fantastic work to provide hope and support to those in our local community who are experiencing poverty, addiction and the effects of a chaotic lifestyle and the club, players and fans are committed to helping in any way we can.”

Happy Days provides supported accommodation within a community setting for people who have been homeless or are at risk. The work of the charity is supported by their social enterprises, Happy Days Cycles and Happy Days Building, which provide employment for those who have previously suffered from homelessness.

Dave Fawcett of Happy Days said: “New Year’s Eve and January can feel very bleak for the people we support, with this year being even harder than usual because of the extra restrictions facing everyone.

“The players’ gifts helped to lift spirits and gave the guys something they could enjoy together within their Happy Days bubbles.

“A huge Shaymen shout-out from all of us at Happy Days for this incredibly generous gesture from the club.”
