FC Halifax Town recorded a 3-1 victory over Eastleigh last night at the Shay Stadium. Gaffer Pete Wild spoke to ShaymenTV after the game.

Wild started proceedings by offloading his thoughts on the result; “I thought we started really well. They’re decent, and it was a cagey game, but we played against their strengths and tried to press them and play through.

“It was a great first goal to get us going, and then to build on that and get the goal before half time was just what we wanted. We spoke at half time that we had to keep our one-foot mentality and gain some momentum.

“Unfortunately, it was a mistake that let them back into the game, but mistakes happen in football. I didn’t think the players were great in the second half at keeping the ball, but we showed good character and compactness.

“We passed men on, won headers, won tackles – the ugly side of the game, and that then allowed us to go on and score an excellent goal and kill the game off. So, you saw a good football side in the first half and then a good resilient side in the second half.”

Wild went into further detail on Town’s third goal, and whether at that point he felt the three points were bagged; “I never think it’s safe sailing! When it gets to the 88th minute – I’m counting the seconds down, but it gives you a buffer and calms you down. With all the things considered, it doesn’t half help (getting the third goal).”

Lastly, the Gaffer previewed Saturday’s Boxing Day clash with Hartlepool United, saying; “I said to the players you can forget what happened last Saturday, because both teams made changes and I think it’ll be a tough game up there.

“They will make it difficult for us and will bring back players who didn’t feature last Saturday. I don’t think there’s much between the two sides and I think it will be an excellent Boxing Day fixture. We have to be at our best or we will suffer.”
