Following FC Halifax Town’s narrow defeat away at Sutton United, manager Pete Wild spoke to Shaymen TV to give his thoughts on the game, the penalty, the debutants, and looking ahead to Barnet.
“I thought it was a very even first half,” Wild said. “Apart from the penalty which I don’t believe was a penalty, it was fairly even. Then we’ve had them camped in their half for the duration of the second half. We go clean through with Bell, he should score. Then once again, we’ve had chance after chance. We were pleased overall with how we played. Last week I don’t think we played well enough for long enough, this week I thought we were far the better side. Unfortunately, we’re just in one of these runs at the moment where it’s not going our way. Things will change, I’ve said to the players, we’ll be judged over 44 games not nine. Disappointingly we’re in a not great spell of form at the moment. Things will change, we’ll be fine. If we keep playing like that, we will win more than we lose.”
The home side took the lead in the ninth minute after Harry Beautyman netted from the penalty spot. Wild was adamant that it was the incorrect decision.
“How has he given a pen from there,” Wild told Shaymen TV. “Unfortunately, week after week you’re pulling referees up for what they’ve not done and yet again today I just can’t fathom his decision making. He then gets away scot-free and I’ve got to go home ruing refereeing mistakes, along with missed chances.”
Neil Danns made his first start for the club whilst Nyal Bell came off the bench to make his first appearance. Wild was happy with their contributions and felt Bell should’ve left his mark on the game.
“Nyal did really well when he came on,” Wild said. “It was a great pass, great spin, but the finish just wasn’t there. That’s where we are at the moment. Hopefully they’ll soon be hitting the bar and going in. Danns got a good 60 minutes in his belt tonight. We were hoping to get him more, but there was no space and they crowded him out.”
Town face Barnet at the Shay Stadium on Wednesday night. Wild is feeling confident that the team will find the net and record a much need win.
“I’m looking forward to it,” Wild told Shaymen TV. “We’re soon going to come out of this poor run of form, and when we do people best be ready for us because it will be incredible.”
