It was a dominating and deserved 6-0 victory for Halifax Town u19s, with a dazzling display from Lucas Schofield, whose hattrick helped guide Halifax through to the next round.
Town looked to bounce back after the 5-1 defeat to Chesterfield, by playing with purpose and intensity from the start.
The Shaymen put the visitors under early pressure which almost resulted in an own goal after the Ferriby defender sliced a clearance over his own bar.
The first real chance of the game came via the home team. Travis Atherton, found his shot just wide of the goal from 25 yards out after some good build up play via Lucas Schofield.
After some back and forth by both teams Halifax finally broke through in the 18th minute. After neat play in the box, Patrick Grooms found himself taken to the ground and a penalty awarded.
Schofield stepped up to take the penalty and expertly put it away. The ball found the top right corner and left the keeper no chance of keeping it out.
Halifax continued the pressure and almost got a deserved second. A free kick played from the left wing, was a difficult one for the North Ferriby to deal with. The ball eventually fell to Ellis Farrar who chested the ball towards goal but could only find the post.
After constant pressure Halifax got a deserved second. A corner from Schofield was picture perfect and found Ben Derby free at the back post. While he was under no pressure it was still a professional finish from the young man and doubled the Shaymen’s lead.
The only chance for the visitors almost resulted in their first goal. It was Derby’s clearance on the goal line that saved Halifax and didn’t allow the visitors back in the game.
Halifax never looked back after this momentary scare and continued their dominance in the 2nd half.
A quick passage of play resulted in Schofield finding himself through on goal. Despite a good save on the first attempt, Schofield kept his composure and lobbed the keeper for his second and Halifax’s third.
Halifax got their fourth in the 56th minute with a well worked team goal. After good build up in the centre of the pitch it was played down to Schofield who showed his class while dribbling past four would be defenders before putting it on a plate for Dylan Forbes, who slotted away calmly.
Francis Sinfield scored the pick of the bunch with a wonderful side footed volley from 12 yards out, which found the top corner and showed the class that Halifax had played with all game.
The game looked destined to finish with the score line at five, but a last-minute attack resulted in yet another goal.
It wasn’t the prettiest goal of the game but that won’t bother Schofield who got his well-deserved hat trick in the dying moments. It capped off a great individual and team performance.
Halifax will face Guiseley in the next round after their 5-0 win over Sheffield.
