THE SHAYMEN FELL TO A 2-1 LOSS AWAY AT STOCKPORT COUNTY LAST TIME OUT, WING-BACK JEFF KING GAVE HIS POST-MATCH THOUGHTS TO SHAYMEN TV.

King began the interview by giving his opinion on the game; “I thought we were unlucky, one-all was a fair result if it had finished that way. Their winner was one hell of a strike, you’ve just got to hold your hands up and say wow, but we still had chances even when we were 2-1 down, and we feel disappointed we didn’t get the draw at the end.”

The 24-year-old later went on to give an insight on what the talking points were at the break when Town went in one-a-piece, saying; “It was all positive and we knew we were doing well, and we didn’t look phased nor were we on the back foot. We knew with the pace of our strikers in behind, we’d get chances.”

King added on the last ten minutes of the game and Stockport’s winning goal; “When they scored, it was just all us attacking and we didn’t have that cutting edge to score – I had one as well, and looking back; I should’ve scored. But they defended well in the last ten minutes and we didn’t score.”

Stockport County were a few bookies’ favourites to win the league, and the Shaymen have been predicted to be up there too; therefore, the question beckoned – was this a promotion six-pointer?

Jeff replied, “No, we just go into every game regardless of who it is, and we don’t worry about anyone else. We know we’re going to be up there, but we would have taken a point – that would’ve been a fair result.”

King has had a little position change this season, looking to play predominantly as a wing-back, he gave an idea of how this transition has gone; “I feel fine – I’m still learning; I’ve probably played (including last season) about 15 games in that position, and I feel like I can improve in different areas – I have improved since last season. I’m making it my own and long may it continue.”

Lastly, Jeff looked ahead to the next game, an away trip to Boreham Wood on Saturday; “If we play like we did tonight or last Saturday, then we will win the game, because the lads we brought in – you’ve seen it, we have quality all over the pitch. We had a good squad last year, but we’ve got that little bit extra that we didn’t have – so we’ve got fire in our stomach ready to go.”
