FC Halifax Town were denied victory with a 2-2 draw over Vanarama National League North side Boston United at the Shay this afternoon.

Town boss Pete Wild was able to give more minutes to his squad with the season due to start in two weeks’ time in another game behind closed doors due to the continuing Covid19 restrictions.

His side nearly took the lead after just 4 minutes, with Luke Summerfield’s corner into the box and it was headed wide of the target by Jake Hyde from inside the six-yard box.

However The Shaymen were not to be denied and took the lead on 9 mins, a beautiful cross from Jeff King was turned home by Kieran Green at the far post, he took one touch and fired past the Pilgrims keeper for the opening goal of the game.

The visitors had a chance to equalise on the 17th minutes, however the cross into the box was wide of the target by Archer.

Another chance at the edge of the box went begging for the Lincolnshire side, a little touch and a shot over the bar that was not troubling Sam Johnson in the Town goal.

Jeff King looked to capitalise on a mistake by the Boston goalkeeper, he ran at goal and turned in the box, but shot was wide of the target, a let off for the visitors

A freekick on the right-hand side, Jack Senior tried to catch out the keeper, but the ball ended up into the side netting.

Both sides were looking to create chances and another effort edge outside the box was over the bar this time from Dimaio

Green’s long ball for Allen, down the right, found Hyde in the box, he laid it off for Summerfield and his drilled cross was turned over the bar by a Boston defender for a corner. Senior’s ball into the bar found Niall Maher at the far post, his header back across goal was cleared by the visitors.

Town made it 2-0 with a lovely move. Allen found Senior down the left, a great ball into the box and Jake Hyde made no mistake with his header to double the lead.

Another long-range effort from the visitors cannoned off the bar and to safety, Senior then conceded a freekick on the far side but the ball in was headed over the crossbar and the score remained 2-0 at the break

A run by King into the box was crossed into the box but a defender headed over his own bar for a corner. The ball into the box was headed wide by Green, he wanted a corner, but the referee Dave Richardson confirmed a goal kick.

A corner for Town was headed wide of the target by Niall Maher as Town looked to score more goals against their lower league opposition.

Fantastic play by Jamie Allen down the right-hand side, got to the by-line and pulled back for Stenson but his shot was saved by the keeper as the pressure was starting to mount on the Boston defence.

Seven substitutes for the visitors as we approached the hour mark, whilst Town also made six of their own changes and within a few seconds Dom Tear was set up on the right hand side by Reuben Noble-Lazarus and his shot cannoned off the bar to deny him his first goal at the Shay. That chance was to prove pivotal as back came the visitors with two of their own goals.

Boston were given the chance of a way back into the game when the trialist keeper brought down a visitor’s striker and Boston took the opportunity from the spot through Jordan Thewlis sending the trialist keeper the wrong way.

They equalised on 73 minutes with former Town striker Jordan Burrow capitalising on a mistake at the back with a simple tap in as a Town trialist looked to chest the ball back without the necessary power to put it back to the keeper.

Sub Paddy Groomes was gifted the ball on the left hand side but his early effort was never troubling the goal and went harmlessly wide when he had the option to continue to run towards goal.
