FC Halifax Town offer a number of routes where talented players in the U17/18/19 age group can continue their football development alongside a study programme.
Our Youth Team and Centre of Excellence are back in training and holding a training session for new and interested players on Tuesday 1st September, 6pm at Calderdale College. If you would like further information or wish to attend training contact Steve Nichol; stevenichol@fchalifaxtown.com
Successful players will be given a two-year scholarship. Players will also have the opportunity to compete in the National League Football Academy, the prestigious FA Youth Cup and reserve/U23 fixtures. The programme includes:
- Technical/tactical training: 6-10 hours of weekly training delivered by a team of coaches all qualified to UEFA B or above.
- Strength & conditioning: weekly training sessions aimed at developing specific aspects of player movement and physical performance.
- Competition: weekly fixtures in competitive leagues.
- Education:
OPTION A: BTEC Level 2 or 3 Sport. A fully recognised qualification for UCAS applications leading to university.
OPTION B: The Trade Academy, this pathway offers players the opportunity to learn a trade (a number of trade options are available) whilst following the football programme
Pathway: opportunity to progress towards the FC Halifax Town youth team/first team.
In partnership with Calderdale College we operate an established programme that has been in place since 2013 and recently awarded with National League Academy status; one of the first National League clubs to achieve this status.
You could follow in the footsteps of youth team graduates; Carl Rushworth (Brighton and England), Jay Benn (FC Halifax Town first team) or Jamie Vardy (Leicester and England).
Speaking about his time in the Youth Team programme, Jay Benn said: “The youth set-up’s been brilliant. I was released by a Football League club and when I first joined I was curious about what the facilities and the coaching would be like, but it really isn’t that much different at all to a Football League side. The standard was great, the lads were great and it’s definitely helped me improve.”
First Team Manager, Pete Wild said: “We are working hard to link the Academy and First Team together, it is refreshing to see home grown talent develop and we want players to have a pathway at this Football Club. At youth team level there is an excellent programme in place that supports the development of players on and off the pitch. Jay is one example of what can be achieved with continued hard work and the right attitude.”
