Josh Staunton gave ShaymenTV his thoughts following the 1-0 defeat to Torquay.

โ€œIt was a scrappy game, tough conditions for both teams. We found it hard, especially first half when the wind was strong, obviously we were playing into it, so it was much harder, so to take it in at nil-nil, we took that as a good sign. I think we said in the changing room before the game that the win could be worth one goal but unfortunately, second half, it died down at pitch level as it sometimes does, and they capitalised. We gave them free kicks in dangerous places, and they capitalised today unfortunately. It just wasnโ€™t our day today and we couldnโ€™t put it in the back of the net.โ€

Staunton said the windy conditions played a โ€œmassiveโ€ part in the way the game went.

โ€œLook at the flow of play, first half we could barely get out and it was similar down there in the game in the FA Trophy, just minus the rain really. I think it was a game of two halves today, second half we dominated but just couldnโ€™t score a goal.โ€

On whether Town could consider themselves unlucky not have to get anything from the game, Staunton said.

โ€œI think if it had come away 0-0 both teams wouldโ€™ve seen it as a fair result, there wasnโ€™t many clear cut chances, and unfortunately with a bit of good luck theyโ€™ve had, Sam making a good save and it falling straight to their player, and we hit the crossbar so it was just one of them days I think.โ€

And looking ahead to next weekendโ€™s fixture at Eastleigh, Staunton said.

โ€œEvery game at this stage of the season is difficult for its own individual reasons. Another long southern away trip, theyโ€™re never easy, but I think weโ€™ve just got to carry on, work hard in training, go into Eastleigh with a positive mindset and work hard to get the result.โ€
