The 6th annual Adam Heslop Cup begins this week with a record number of boys and girls teams entering the competition.ย

The competition began in 2015 and has grown considerably from being a boys/mixed tournament with 10 teams entering in the first year.ย  This year’s event will be competed by 28 boys/mixed teams and 18 girls teams – record numbers for both competitions.

The Adam Heslop Cup bears the name ofย  FC Halifax Town superfan Adam, who travels across the country to support the Shaymen, with the trophy being supported by both Colin from Brooksbank School and Rob from Trinity Academy.

The victors of the tournament will have the opportunity to play at Wembley (following success in regional finals), and for the first time will representย the West Riding FA in a Schools Futsal regional competition.

Nick Walker, Head of Community & Academy Development commented:

“The girl’s section this year has significantly increased, last year we struggled to get 12 teams together but this year we have had to expand the competition due to increased numbers.

“There will be 18 schools competing in the girl’s section of the Adam Heslop Cup and hopefully, we will give more girls the aspiration to take part in Futsal/Football on a more regular basis.

“Last year we were one round away from getting to Wembley, hopefully, this year we can do one better and get there for both the boys and girls teams.”

As well as saluting the support Adam gives to the club, the event also aims to engage with local schools within Calderdale, promote the community work that the club does and give a taste of the sport of Futsal to lots of players.

If you would like to know more about the work we do in schools/with grassroots clubs/with local junior players please speak to one of our coaching team.

The girls’ tournament begins on 06 November 10am, with the boys continuing theirs next week, starting at the same time.
