Bromley: It’s A Reality Check

Pete Wild was thoroughly disappointed with the second-half performance of FC Halifax Town in their defeat away to Bromley, however the manager has also called for some perspective on the Shaymenโ€™s season so far.

Given the job right on the cusp of the season, Wild had little time to assess his squad before the competitive action began. Various bookmakers had Town as favourites to be relegated from the division, yet they sit third in non-leagueโ€™s top tier after 18 games.

Whilst acknowledging the positivity of the season so far as a whole, the manner of yesterdayโ€™s 5-0 loss frustrated Wild.

He spoke to Shaymen TV after the match at Hayes Lane to give his thoughts on the season up until now, the match itself, the players at his disposal and more.

On the season thus far:

โ€œI think what we have got to do is take a reality check. We were nailed on finishing bottom of the league with everybody heading into first day of the season. Coming into today’s game we were top of the league and done very well.

โ€œSo, it is a reality check for everybody, and it shows where we are at and it gives everybody a little leveller of where we are.

โ€œNow we can all chill out and readjust and make sure our expectations are addressed accordingly and I think everybody has got to remember that today.โ€

On the game itself:

โ€œWe withstood the pressure [in the first-half], we knew we could get one or two chances in the second-half to try and get to them in the second-half.

โ€œBut we completely capitulated in the second-half. We work all week defending set pieces and we concede of four set pieces, which is highly frustrating.

โ€œWhen they scored the first goal we completely capitulated โ€“ not good enough. Men against boys in the second-half and you can’t defend like that and expect to come away with three points.

โ€œFour set pieces un-did us, the game is over, the game is dead and buried.โ€

On the squad:

โ€œNobody can say to me they haven’t had a chance. I inherited 85 percent of that squad and told them I would give them a chance.

โ€œ18 games in I have given them their chance and now it is time to shuffle the pack

On Jerome Binnom-Williams red card for two bookable offences:

โ€œTheir lad has pulled out so it looked worse because their lad had pulled out. Yes, it was a second yellow. It was silly very silly. He should be sharper and get there quicker.โ€

On Townโ€™s next game, away to Sutton United on Tuesday evening (kick-off 7.45):

โ€œI am looking forward to it, I am looking forward to try and put things right. That is what we have got to try and do this week and make changes appropriately and give the best account of ourselves on Tuesday night.”
